Coming along very nicely, looks great... Funny how things turn out to take much longer and become a lot more work then ever expected when it comes to boat redo's....
Also nice touch on the teak work for the platform!

Thanks man. With super light go fasts the Teak would only add unnecessary weight, it is something we have done a lot of on larger boats, just love the way Teak looks though. I always knew this would be a fairly big project, hadn't intended having to do the dash, mid bulk heads and screen along with the rest at the first hit out but it needed doing so added it to the get go list. Further down the track I will do the cabin...... I've got to say that we build boats a lot different to the way this one has been built, even given that it is a mass produced mid 80's boat. So it is hard to not modify to the standards you would normally expect yourself. As long as it doesn't become a chore......

We had another good day today (Sunday), cut and fitted most of the teak slats for the boarding platform, unfortunately ran out of time to get them glued in. Still making progress.......

Thank you sir, high praise indeed.

Perhaps now is a good time to share a little information with you'all. You may have wondered during my ramblings when I seem to be flipping from I to we during my descriptions of various sections of the rebuild. The we is in the form of one of my sons, Blair, who has been helping me with parts of this build. Initially just when I needed a second pair of hands but then the build started to get into his blood and now he helps more often than not. Blair owns Express Marine Rotorua and is a very good boat builder working in my (our) home town of Rotorua. He is just a shy old Kiwi boy but when next taking some photo's I will see if I can manage to get him in one.

He is a VERY good boat builder and it is just great having him work on this project with me. For one so young (25 years old) he has a ton of experience from high tech carbon fibre round the world race yachts, to turn of the century, very old school timber launches. How cool is it sharing the same vocation and passion with one's son........

My intention had always been for this boat to be something very special and quite different. A head turner, yes it will certainly be that. I will probably have the only V8 Evinrude in regular use certainly in the central North Island and possibly in all of the North Island and one of only a very few through the whole of New Zealand.

So attention to detail is everything and the build will take as long as it takes. We are trying to commit to working every Sunday on the Nova, so that will certainly move it along.

It must be a great feeling having your son enjoy the same passions as you and for him do such high quality work as well. Working on this project together must be a great joy!...Attention to detail indeed!!! It truelly shows!!

I'm looking forward to a video of that MONSTER V-8 in action! Keep up the good work!!

An update from last Sunday. All the Teak has now been glued in place. When gluing Teak or any other oily wood with Epoxy it is important to thoroughly clean the side of the timber to be glued with epoxy thinners just prior to applying glue to the timber. The Teak slats are 50mm wide with a 5mm rebate down one edge. You will see that we needed to space the 5mm rebate out to 5.8mm using a .8mm packer added to each vertical section. This was done to take up the odd space which remained, so that the centre slat was of similar size to the rest of the slats and the rebates were also all of similar size. Hope that makes sense.

Son Blair is the handsome brute in the photo's, well someone had to handle the technical stuff ie the camera........

ID:	302110 As always clean up is essential. When the glue is dry use a small sharp chisel to remove any excess glue which has squeezed up into the rebate.

This coming Sunday we will prime the rebates and then fill with Simmons Caulking compound. This will be left to mature for two weeks then a final sand and all will be revealed.

Thanks Greg, I am trying to end up with something quite special, certainly in my home stomping ground. So it will have a bit of Teak on it but just in keeping with its heritage and mid 80's era.
