Any deck boat owners here?
Sorry for such a wimpy first post. I have been on this site for a while just drooling everyone's toys.
Anyway, I had a question on what peoples opinion are on adding a bigger motor to a deck boat. I currently have a new to me 2002 Starcraft Aurora. It's a 20.5' deck with a tri-hull or thru hull (confused on these terms) type of hull. I currently have an Mercury Optimax Saltwater Series 150XL on the back with no complaints. It planes well and flies for the size and weight of the boat. From what I can tell the prop is a stainless steel quicksliver prop that is a 15p (stamped on the prop). Like I had said, the boat is no slug. Compared to my old 2000 Larson 18' bow rider with a 3.0, 21p prop, this thing flies.
Now, I noticed on the factory usgc badge it says max power is 225hp. Would it be that big of a difference if I re-power it? Probably a stupid question since that alone would be a 75hp difference, I am pretty sure it would. right?
Also, I noticed these hulls are not the greatest on waves or even hitting wakes. It feels like the bow of the boat gets swept easily. In other words, it floats into the direction of where the wakes are going. Is there a term for that in the boating world? Like understeer of oversteer?
On calm lakes the thing handles and drives like a dream.

Bow steer, If its a multi hull (catamaran, tri toon, tunnel, ect) one pontoon can grab the water and steer the boat in that direction. Just what happens, but it should run good in some rough water.

More Power is always good aroind here. There is a member here called grandpa who has a 280 on a deck And it screams. There is a guy on the donzi site who put a whipple charged 525 in his donzi deckboat to win a bet against a frind with a 22 donzi as to who was faster- he went in the 80's. Mine is slow but it is a family truckster. Post up some pics

Yup, that's exactly what it does.
About 4 weeks ago we encountered a fast moving storm line that threw 5 foot waves while heading back to the dock. Man was that scary, but the boat did handle it perfectly. Had to throttle in and out but I felt pretty confident. The storm actually capsized 4 sailboats.
