    2.4 200 water temp issue

First i will say i am far from a boat mechanic. Recently i got an old 2.4 200 and swapped the powerhead and tuner onto my 87 150 midsection with my lower unit. Replaced the water pump with the whole new kit using all new seals and housing. Thermostats are gutted but housings are still in place. I put 3/8" line straight down off each head through the bottom of the cowl. At first this was great, all worked well. Took it out for a test run and noticed the right bank was not flowing, just steam. After shutting down cooling off and trying again it happened again. Blocked off left side and it started flowing on right. I was told on the older 2.4's that the two thermostat housings need to be tied into one another due to the right bank being higher. Tried that, and also put some restrictors on the outlets on the cowl (in effort to keep water in engine longer) and it still seems too warm. I noticed a fair amount of water flowing out the front of where the tuner and midsection meet. i plan to snatch the power head again and replace that(2 week old)gasket. In short the question is, did that gasket cause this issue or was i told correctly that the two thermostat housings need to be connected to each other and then to cowling?

They for sure need a restrictor and thermostats usually work best on that motor. Gasket is a problem and you need to find out why it failed. Probably not the gasket's fault...

They are connected from the factory but I doubt that is the isue. It sounds like you are leaking from the motor mounts. Get the two adapter plates sealed and it will help.

Those two piece plates are different (base plate) I think your problem is here! See if you can get the original base for that engine!
