I was just wondering, but dont feel bad about the money. I put 17K into a truck I bought for 16K, and 3 years later the cab corners are rusting out.

Well, I got to work on the boat some this weekend and take some updated shots.
Here are some pictures with the new rub rail on it which I think looks great. I had a chance to run some wiring, but am no where close to being done.
I got the new steering installed, guages, switches and put the wheel on for just a quick pic.
Sunday, I put the motor back together with the tilt/trim and got it mounted on the boat.
Enjoy:
Gettin' there.

Come on man......you don't like the fancy black aluminum??? It's very "Retro".
I'm going to use this one as a guage to see how the boat runs and then order a nicer prop once I settle on something.
I am putting the windshield back on, but it had a crack in it so I'm having it replaced with a piece of Lexan. The windshield had made it in once piece for 40 years and I'd had the boat for one hour and dropped a 2 x 4 on it and cracked it....I could kick myself...

Thanks for the offer, the company that originally manufactured the windshield is actually still in business and still makes the replacement windshields and frames. They are pretty expensive though......$600 for the windshield and $800 for the windshield and frame.....plus another $100 shipping.
I'll see what the lexan looks like, but may take you up on your offer if I'm not happy with it.

Well, this weekend was not quite as productive as I hoped.........I got by butt whipped.
I managed to get the steering taken care of and did some wiring, but still have some work ahead of me.
I worked on installing the throttle and shift cable and can't for the life of me get them to work correctly together. I can't seem to get them synched together. There are two metal plates (in the motor) that align perfectly when in nuetral, once the throttle is engaged in forward or reverse one plate moves (up or down) to allow the carbs to open.
I can shift forward and the carbs open all the way up and the boat shifts into forward gear, but when I bring it back to the neutral position the carbs don't close all the way and the plates get hung up on each other not allowing me to go into reverse or vise/versa.
I don't have the old cables so I have no idea what they looked like.
Does this make any sense to somebody more mechanically inclined than myself? This seems like it should be simple, but it is whipping my ass.
On top of this, I fried the tilt/trim pump motor.........did I mention I love boats......

You need a cherry inline 6 same year as boat. I miss mine the rallysport/sidewinder was by far the most fun I have had boating. I wish I had the skills you exhibit in this restoration. Keep the pictures coming.Rick

Again, nice work. Please invest in a new full cover for it, right away, to keep it look'n new forever.

Well, after one year I finally got to find out whether or not it would float......
This is actually the second weekend the wife and I have had it in the water, but like morons we forgot the camera last weekend. We spent the last two days running around the lake and burned through a couple of tanks of fuel. The boat rides great and the motor runs very well too. There are a couple of things that I am not happy with and a couple of things I need to try and fix, but overall I could not be more pleased.
I am still trying to figure out how the boat likes to be run, but with around a half tank of fuel, two adults and a cooler full of beer and other usual stuff we hit 48 on my GPS WOT. I need another prop as the one that's on there is slightly dinged up aluminum, but I wanted to make sure I was happy with the size before I dropped more cash on a stainless one. The boat is super fun to drive, has great hole shot and great acceleration.
I need to get some better pictures of the interior now that it's done, so I'll post those later.
Anyway...........It floats.....

Your Sidewinder looks great and shows well for all the work you put into it. I just finished my Schuster Tahiti (Same boat) and got the engine running over the weekend.
As for the New Sidewinder they are pretty much not happening or so was the last I had read on the Sidewinder forum.
There is a pretty dedicated group of Winder and clone owners on the Sidewinder Forum if you want to share your boat there I am sure they would enjoy it.
