There are some real basic things that you can do to get more air in , squeeze it a little harder and make it not work as hard to get it out ... lucky for you , there are two of the best with these motors right there near you ... do a search on this site for Shawn Torrente or Chris Carson ...

Give Eric Simon a call he has been building haul arse 3 liter engines and successful associated parts for years and has all the bolt on parts to make your 3 liter run....

He has a large selection of 3 liter after market parts, most that hop up 3 liters use his bolt on parts and he IS a support vendor of this site...

What year is your 3.0? That will make a big difference on what mods will need done.

Cut your heads to 300 specs, run a 300PM ignition computer and 250XB fuel computer. You will also want to find the 4 butterfly intakes to get some more air flow. That should get you in the 270 HP range. Nice power increase and it will idle and behave just like a fishing motor. That's about the best setup you can get with the factory electronics.

Not to steal the thread but I have a quick question for opsdave - I have 99 Mercury 225 EFI's. I assume this mod would work on those motors also??

I think some of the later EFI's came with a 4 butterfly intake. I'm not sure when they started changing them, but it's worth a look.

I actually lost a piston recently so I have my fuel injection system apart and sent the injectors out for cleaning and snyncronizing. For others reading this post I can tell you the 1999 225 EFI's do not have the 4 butterfly intake!!

Some guys just use silicone after the o-ring grooves are milled off. You can also send them to Taylor or Simon. I think they both still re-machine the grooves for the o-rings.

So I have been doing a bunch of reading on this upgrade (I have also been doing some shopping!). I am not a huge fan of raising the octane as I go through so much fuel a year it will start to hit me in the wallet pretty good. From what I am reading the octane increase is a function of the head shaving or compression. So, can you do the other upgrades without shaving the head and get any ponys out of it?? Thanks!!!

Sure you will still get a good increase in power, just not the maximum potential.
