    Chris Carson Marine-

I talked with Chris about reeds and machining the rubber coating off my reed blocks (2000 Merc 300PM). Got them back about a week ago and just installed them. These blocks are a work of art! I made a test run yesterday and couldn't believe how good it ran. The smooth idle was back, throttle was snappy and I picked up 260 rpm's. Chris did an AWESOME job and was great to work with! I'm going to Lake Powell in 9 days for 2 weeks. 7 of those days I'll be running about 100 miles each direction on the water. I'll post those results after. Time to look for a new prop!
    Thanks Chris!!!

I spoke to Chris about this also, when I realized I had rubber blocks in my motor, ended up using a set of non rubber I had laying around, but may send the rubber ones to him for machining.

Chris is great to work with and did an amazing job on theses. It made a much bigger impact than I thought it would.

Hey,thanks for the good report,i'm pretty happy with the finished product...the cage ports increase in size a little over 030 in length and 035 in width...it all adds up,plus the inside passage is much cleaner, chris

Yes, in my opinion Chris' product is second to none. I purchased a set for my 250 and I am very happy with them. I will be purchasing another set for my spare 250 soon.

    300Pro ,
Brother between those reeds and finish on your cages ... it looks like you should be in for quite an improvment from idle on up ...

Chaz- Your on the money! This motor woke up and she is smooth. I can't wait to run it long distance. Cheap $$ for the rpm's!

UPDATE: After a month of running hard and long distances (100 miles each direction WOT) on the motor I opened the front and pulled the new reeds and blocks. Not only did they hold up but still look new. No broken or chipped reeds! Chris's modification on the blocks and his custom reeds are AWESOME! The idle is still perfect and throttle response is great. The motor is in great shape but this woke it up.It ran smooth and has a crisp response. This has to be one of the best and cost effective mods to do for these 3.0ltr motors. THANKS CHRIS!!!!!!!

    Thumbs up

Got some reeds from Chris, his reeds, price, communication and concerns were great! A real pleasure to deal with!

Chris's support is second to none! The guy's I went with noticed a huge difference in the performance as well. We ran this motor hard and long and was extremely suprised at the "like new" look the reeds and cages had when we opened up the front. We ran over 1600 miles according to the GPS in 30 days. Many runs were 100 miles each way.

sounds like this mod is working great in the lower RPM motors, but correct me if i am wrong, you would never take the rubber off the sportjet cages in a 2.5 drag turning 10K?Isnt the rubber there for reliability?thanks

Stoker,to answer your question...I can't say cause I haven't tested. My guess is there isn't as much room for improvement with the sportjet 5 cage,as the windows won't gain as much percentage of increase as the smaller window cages do. As to reliability,I just don't know, were not having any trouble at 10-11k with aluminum cages with our reeds, the leafs are larger in the sportjet, but not larger than my f1 cages,or Taylor's,or Chopper City...all aluminum cages, and high rpm
    's,Chris
