I would take weight and place it in the bow of the boat. if it performs better, you have too much setback. This is not the final or only answer, but it should at least give you a starting place.

I am working on one right now trying to get some porpoising out of it... It is very bad at 25 to 30 mph but runs great and handles great at higher speeds. The boat is a 18 ft Skeeter running a 6 inch set back plate which came from factory on it. It originally had a 2.5L 150 EFI on there but now I have a greatly modified 2.4 200 with a Cle lower. Nice at high speeds but slower and we bounce!! I have a friend who has same hull with no plate on his and he is running a 2.5L 150 and it is about same as mine so I dont think the set back is the only problem. I am also making a skid planner for mine going by the pic on the Allison web site. I made one for a Ranger last year and it helped the hole shot a lot and really helped the squatting when coming off plane. Made it a totally different boat. But not so sure what to do with the Skeeter just yet. That skid planner might help it. Any good ideas I am listening! Thanks guys.....

I'm running 10" of setback on my Vegas XT. It also porpoises right around the speed that it gets up on plane...around 20. Then it continues until around 25 or so...unless I'm running full negative trim. I don't think it has "too much" setback...it just has too much if all you do is cruise around at 20mph all day. At 40+ it's perfect

The Skeeter runs perfect at speeds of 35 plus and absolutely no issues at those speeds but on a very rough and choppy lake like I had to run on for 2 days in a row it used more gas and was not a very good ride at the slower speeds. I was fishing a bass tournament and there was also a lot of floaters that came down river into the lake. My friend even trashed a lower unit on his Verado 250.. bet that's gonna cost him a few bucks! I took it very easy ans kept things safer myself. Sometimes ya just cant run fats for some reason. I trimmed it way under and plowed the water for most of 2 days and only used 125 bucks in gas not counting the oil it used! And that was being conservi

Sorry hit wrong button. Re post time------------- anyway as long as I can run it on the pad at 35+ mph ( I usually run a lot of 55 and 60) Boat will run mid 80's.... And on that pad at 35 to 40 it uses about 1/2 the fuel.... A lot of difference.. But that lake had 4 ft swells and a chop for 2 days. Lots of ocean type rigs running up and down just riding... Making big wakes... Lots of Fountains and such with inboards. I mean 30ft boats! I thought fuel was expensive but I guess some folks have unlimited funds for fuel...
