    Effects of moving prop back on propshaft? (adding a second trust washer)

    I just put my cleaver back on and decided to see if I could get a second thrust washer on it and still have enough thread for the bolt. Worked perfect.
    My boat need tail lift and I would think this would increase tail lift with a cleaver and bow lift with a chopper. Just thinking it though, the further back the prop is, the more leverage it has on the motor to either lift the tail or bow. The prop is also going to be slightly deeper in the water when the bow comes up so I am thinking less slip. I may even be able to bring the motor up a tiny bit more if that's true. Prop should also be in slightly cleaner water coming off the gearcase/skeg.
    The obvious downside is more stress on my small gearcase which was never designed to do what I am doing with it (surfacing).
    I will test it when I can see if there's a noticeable difference.
    Have any of you played with this and what did you find?

    Chris,

    What your thinking about has been tried numerous times on various boats. I even ask about this a few years back on several other web site dealing in HP O/B's. You will not see any measureable gains (recreational boating) by moving the prop back let's just say 1/2". The only thing that will have a major impact is the load applied to your prop shaft and bearings ........

    If your thru hub prop needs more ventilation to get out of the hole it will help but thats it.

    Not a through hub.

    If it will make a difference on any boat, it will be mine. When I cracked 80mph I started crying tears of joy and almost blew over from the weight change.
