    v6 crossflow hesitation

I've got an 89' 150 hp evinrude, I guess would be a crossflow has a flat exhaust cover, if I let it idle for a while or just off idle through a no wake zone when I take off again it bogs bad and sometimes stalls the only way to make it get on plane is to push the e-choke, does the same thing when powering it onto the trailor, once it starts to rev it runs fine all the way to top end, cleaned the carbs and checked float level everything looked good, will run topend for very long periods so I don't think its a fuel flow problem, any ideas?

If you push in the choke and it goes, then it is lean. Some where in the circuts from idle to mid range. Do a link an sync wouldn't be a bad idea either.

When you cleaned the carbs, did you remove all 6 jets from each carb and visually inspect them? Esp the idle and mids. Blowing some aerosol carb cleaner through the idle and mid passages in the upper carb bodys will clean out any dried fuel which may be restricting them.

Done that too, I was thinking doesn't it have some kind of mixure adjustment for to use when pull starting?

I soaked the carbs in carb dip then blew out all the orfices with air then rinsed them with aerosol carb cleaner, all the jets seemed to be flowing.

You don't want to vat those carbs out I am told. The emulsion tube is glued in and the vat style cleaner will mess with the glue and it may come loose. If all your timing arms are moving properly and free then it is lean. Does it spit at an idle or rough?

Edit: check you recirculation hoses and valves on that too. May as well eliminate that.

What is your idle speed when in gear? Possible it is too low. What are your compression numbers? Is this a straight 150, or is this a 150S model? Many engines in this year time frame have carbs that have plastic bowls. If yours has plastic bowls, they can be part of the problem. They warp at the mating surface with the upper carb body. It's not a matter of will they warp, but when. They can leak air, fuel and cause all sorts of running problems. Best to replace them with aluminum ones.

No plastic bowls, ill get the serial number later but it does have a vented cowl.

Do you have a measurment for the float level, I didn't measure them but they where all the same and looked square

You have the basic 150. What are your compression numbers? Have you done a sync and link? Check the cam follower roller and sleeve. Make sure the clear plastic sleeve is still intact on the roller. It's typical for the sleeve to deteriorate/fall off over time and that messes up the throttle/timing relationship.

What is the engine timing when the carb roller just bisects the line on the throttle cam?

Does the timer base rotate freely or does it drag a bit when you advance the throttle both fast and slowly?

What is your top rpm with a normal load?

My tach doesn't work so I can't answer any ?s about rpm, I tryed to check the timing at full advance withe the plugs unhooked but my timing light im guessing that you have to ground the plug wires?

Are you asking what the idle timing is? B/c I could check that with the motor running.
