someone on my boat had hone a shotty job at painting over the gelcoat (bad surface prep) and it was pealing but some 400 grit and a nice clean surface should do you well

use good fine line tape to mask out side your stripe, orbital sand or 320 wet with a block, hand sand the edges.re tape and clean fiberglass with a prep solvent.buy one of those airless co2 sprayers and mix your paint.west marine sells 2 part paint.spray lite coats 3 will do fine.let dry a day or two 1200 wet sand the orange peel and buff.I have painted a bunch of small boat bottoms this way and they look just as good as when I do it in the spray booth.
