Core Material
I had originally thought I was going to go with Coosa Bluewater 26 as my coring material for stringers and knees. But.... In my area it is virtually impossible to get - at a reasonable cost. I did locate some Bluewater 26 a 3/4" 4x8 sheet for 214.00 which is a great price until they added 100.00 shipping charges. I have a local source for BalTec products. Specifically the AirEx PXc and PXw in their product line up. These are not sandwich core materials. I am waiting for pricing information on the BalTec stuff and in the end it may be a wash with the coosa price wise.
Anyone have experience with the BalTec line up? I could still go with the Coosa and will if it's is the best product for the application. Just trying to decide which way to go.

Just looking at the data sheets the Airex PXc.385 should work just fine for a transom.

you could use PCx.320 if you get a deal on it.

No... I haven't. Johnson Fiberglass in South Houston, College Ave. @ I-45, is where I've been getting my basic 'glass materials. All they have is Core Mat. I Called Coosa Composites and they said Composites One was a distributer but after finally gettting the number for the outside rep(they have no inside sales) I learned they don't stock Coosa.
Composites One web site kinna stinks as they don't really have much more than links to their suppliers. I wanted to compare tech specs of coosa against the specs of the Baltek AirEx PWc but.... Coosa doesn't post them saying instead if you've got questions - call'em.

The rep went to vector ply with some of my questions and you know how communications can break down.... Vectorply came back with a recomendation of 1208 and PXw. Being as I now had the vectorply reps email... I restated the question and they came back with 1708 and PWc 320.
The bi-ax I was looking at is KE-BXM 1708-5B X 50” which is a kevlar hybrid. Looking at the numbers on this when compared to straight E-glass the numbers did look better but I really didn't know if it was that much better, in my application, to bear the added expense and trouble. Sooo... just going with E-BMX 1708. Guess it'd help of I actually knew what I was looking at though.
The copy n' past function didn't work all that well. But the test catagory is listed first and the the corrosponding two sets of numbers side by side represent Infusion and open mold. The infusion testing was done with vinyl ester resin while the open mold test were performed with Poly ester resin.

The hybrid will work but I would go with a glass 1708 a couple reasons first E Glass has better elongation ,second better compressive strength and third cheaper ,Wait is the rest of the boat Kevlar?
