Wow, been awhile since I did an update.
1st time I shot the yellow on the top deck it went bad, real bad. Found out the paint was contaminated. Had to sand it all off and start over. Oh the fun in that. So after shooting the primer again, then the black. I am finally done.

After another full day of spraying I can say the painting is DONE. I have the heat cranked and will pull the tape on Sunday. Never thought this day would ever get here. I can finally start to rig the darn thing. Sure is yellow.

The paint is done and the tape removed. Now to wait a few weeks and then wet sand and buff. The pictures really don't do the color justice, but you get the idea. The picture of the spash well is to show the drain. All the deck hardware is the same color.

Just had to pull it out in the sun to see what it looked like. Then sweep all the paint dust out of the garage. Wife was getting tired of yellow foot prints in the house.LOL

Sweet! I was going to say; it looks like a completely different boat! I thought you were painting a lot of it black, man that looks really nice that way.

Yeah that is a pain doing that in the garage on the house, it makes a mess. Wait until a windy day and get the blow gun out....lol!

So are you starting to slap hardware back on it? Or are you going to buff it?

Where is that Reese anyway, he said he would post about his ride and I can't find it....my poor old checkmate is still sitting here all wrapped up. I actually thought about running it this summer just so I could GPS it, but no time.

I have continued to make a mess of the garage. Color sanding is just a ton of fun. Just about done giving the once over with 1000 grit. Then its on to 2000 grit, then a quick trip over it with 2500-3000 grit. Then a nice hand rub and shine. Was going to use a buffer, that was a bad idea. Pant is a bit to soft, or I am a moron when it comes to buffing.LOLOLOL

Its a good workout for your arms. How are you doing it? I use a foam pad with the paper on it. You can cheat on flat areas and use a jitterbug on air, but it takes longer. On the other hand all you do is stand there and move it around a little. I assume if you are using that grit its paint based and not gel. I would do the 1000-1200 then go to 1500. Then I would buff it, though 2000 does not hurt and might be better on the black parts..and will make for less buffing. Buffing depends on what you use a lot, need a slow buffer I think my wheel only runs 3000rpm or so and is variable speed...don't use any faster rpm than 4K and seldom do you need that. Start with a #1 wool pad and be careful when compound starts to dry. Keep wheel flat. Stay away from any edges! They will get you, do them by hand, in fact I often don't even wetsand edges unless I have to for dirt or peel....Then hit them later with polish on the wheel carefully. Always run the wheel off the edge and never onto it, always lightly. When you go to a finer cleaner/polish you can use foam pads. With urethane car paints you don't even use compound, as it is really an aggressive cut for laquer and gel. You use a medium cut. Some are oil based and don't dry when you wheel, those are less likely to cause you a problem, I think the 3M ones are. Meguires does dry up and breaks down some to help shine. The wheel is even harder on your arms and back. Then clean the bonnet once in a while. The whole time you do this don't get any dirt on it or it will scratch right into it.
