Opti dumping fuel at idle
I have a 2003 225 Opti. Idles and runs fine. No noticeable change in performance. Recently I noticed a little fuel/oil sheen on the water when I fired her up at the ramp. Wasn't sure it was mine but checked everything over for leaks including lower unit. Found nothing. Last weekend I noticed it again and could smell a little gasoline. Seems to be coming up from exhaust. Fuel burn numbers via smartcraft seem fine. Injectors were cleaned by Brucato maybe 200 hours ago when I popped a compressor. Three air injectors were replaced at that time. Going to pull the plugs and check for color/wet first. Any other ideas appreciated.

Don't forget fuel pump diaphram,if you have access to fuel / air gauges now would be the time to check those readings, still could be an injector or an o ring.keep us posted

The VST needle/seat was stuck in mine. Made a fuel slick on the water and smelled of gas at idle, it was causing the VST to overflow with fuel.

Pulled VST apart today and it looked perfect. Probably should have just pulled the vent line off the top of the VST and see if fuel was coming out instead of pulling the tank apart. At least I now know its squeaky clean inside.
Pulled the plugs and they looked like typical Opti plugs with #5 being a little sootier.

Have a look at the oil pump on the stbd. side of the motor. Lots of hoses and such to leak. Buddy just had similar thing happen and it was the oil pump dripping. His showed in the lower cowling, but just barely... Just another thing to check..

Checked reeds with an inspection mirror. Got a pretty good look at them. Idles fine.

Pulled the diaphram out of the starboard fuel rail and it is intact (no rips) but covered with peices of black rubber in the air side.
Pulled the rail off and the air side was full of fuel. I think the black rubber is peices of the hoses that connect to the compressor and coneect the two rails. Fuel has eaten away the the rubber hose. Will need to replace those.
If I look into the air sise passages of the fuel rail it is covered with little rubber debris.
How am I getting fuel on the air side of that diaphram is good?
Could a little debris form the compressor hod the valve open and then it all just went south?
I dont think there is any other area where the fuel and air can mix.Last edited by Mr. Demeanor; 12-21-2010 at 08:39 PM.

Have you flow tested the fuel injectors again. If one is stuck open it will do the same thing. Also check the O rings on the injectors.
Have you checked all 3 of the diaphragms in the Fuel/Air rails

Cheeckd all three diaphrams. I had a bad compressor with some scoring in the cylinder wall. Maybe the pressure was down on the air side allowing fuel in?
I will probbaly have to throw it back togther when the new compressor comes in and do a preesure balance test.13' Biel tunnel AKA "Flight Risk"
