Wow boat really looks good, you are gonna be ready in no time. I give you a lot of credit, I dont even like getting the snow off my boat let alone put 12 hours in doing all that work. Great job!

thanks guys! im making decent progress, still have a long way to go but i think once the floor is in i should be able to really get my ass into gear and get the rest ready for paint. i think im doing pretty decent job so fa rand i have been doing almost everything by myself, only 22 years old and before a year and a half ago i didnt really know anything about fiberglass. think i have come a long way. only thing i wish i would have done was glassed over the tops of the stringers in the front and rear in one piece but i was tight on room when i laminated so i am gonna have to live with capping them

I've got a question, did your shadow have the ribs coming off the stringers originally, or did you just add them
    for extra strength? chris

Thank you! there were only stringers and a floor in the boat before i gutted it and the stringers were very short, ended maybe a foot or two infront of the fuel tank. i extended the stringers and added the front bulkhead and the ribs. the new floor will be more of a floor pan, only going in the cockpit, the bilge area and under the deck are not getting a deck.

i have seen pictures of your boat with the twins and it is a nice rig! looks like we have a similar color scheme

FYI my floor stops right in front of my gas tank with a bulkhead. nothing forward of that. Floor goes all the way to the transom except right behind the gas tank bulkhead where the bilge is.

Ah mine was a documented race boat "Therapy".

Its kinda amazing that it seems no two Challengers are the same.

Thanks, the colors are pretty close on our boats. Mine is titled as an '85, but according to the serial # it was built in 1984 w/ blue + gray & white stripes. The construction on mine sounds the same as yours was. Your boat should last another 30-40 years with it's new "bones"!! Looking at your progress gives me inspiration. I'll be doing the same to mine in the future.

your boat is really nice, i wish this one was in the kinda shape yours looks to be in. the blue gelcoat on the top of this boat is a nightmare. its all crazed, cracked and shipped. when im done i hope it comes out as nice as yours looks. i also really like the windshield that most shadows have, i dont know why my boat was built with the challenger style bar but it grew on me so i am probably going to leave it( originally planned on having a windshield made). my boat seems to be a whole mix up of wierd things, no windshield, full transom, foam coring, no notch and i cant seem to find really any other that were made similar. my boat was built to be an i/o boat originally i assume. how is the transom setup on your boat? looks almost like mine but hard to see from the pictures. anyway thanks for the pics, gives me an idea of what my boat will look like all painted. any chance you coming to the romp this spring?

Here's a few pics of the transom area. Sorry it's not spiffy-new looking anymore, I rigged it w/twins 23years ago. I was at the romp 2yrs ago and would like to go to this one, but I,ve been dealing with a health issue lately so I'll see how I feel w/the time comes. chrisClick image for larger version.

Been following this thread for a while now and at your age it is quite an ambitious project to tackle. your doing a hell of a job(espicially with the weather the way it has been)
I posted before that I had a shadow back in the early 90's and after looking at all the pics and threads about them i never ever should have sold it. I gave it away for about 8k if I recall with a strong running 200 on it.

If I could find another one I would jump all over it and if it needed work all the better. Latley I have been driving around freeport, baldwin, oceanside hoping to find something rotting in a yard but I think its time to expand my search further east

You mentioned that your boat had no windsheild which is strange for an 84 I know upon request the factory would do a challanger style rail but I only knew of one other like that. It was a beige colored boat in elmont but was an 80-81

I will try to post a few pics of my old boat I have a ton more somewhere if your interested I will scan them

    awsome job

That thing is sick, what kind of numbers are you turning if you dont mind me asking. Eric, you might have to start looking for another motor, this thing is sick! By the way i know a lot of people that would kill to have a garage like that, it would be a lot easier restoring that shadow in there huh E.
