I am getting ready to do the same thing to my shadow. The top deck is spider webbed in all the corners (Where the gel is 1/8" thick) I assume this is why you sanded most of the gel off? Are you getting it resprayed in gel?
Can you PM me with the estimate $ from Raybo? Just trying to get a ballpark to see if its worth it.

i sanded the blue off the top deck because it was full of small little slits(cracks called crazing marks) that are usually caused from improper catalyzing of the gelcoat in the mold and sun deterioration. it would be impossible to grind out each little crack and fill it without alot of shriking of the filler so it is best to just sand the gelcoat off and fair the area. if your radius' have cracks or you have a few little cracks here or there those can just be ground out, glassed and faired over. i am respraying the whole boat with Imron

    thanks man!

did earlier shadows use the challenger deck? shadow decks usually stepdown behind the front seats to accomodate the rear rails. Nice looking boat!

Challenger deck behind the seat does not step down like the Shadow. Mine has teak all the way around the cockpit.

I talked to T2X about this and by HIN and gel color scheme(White, Red and Black), its a Shadow. There were few built with a Challenger "legacy" deck and hull (Since i dont have a notched transom either) There were very few built since this is the only one I have seen and Rich barely remembers building them that way.

yours looks just like mine. Maybe its cause the other deck uses a hatch and no well behind the rear seat. Tunaboys Shadow has a hatch and deck is just like Starflites.

yea that makes sense if they only built a few that way because i havent seen any other shadows with that deck either. all shadows i have seen whether an i/o boat like mine or the outboard version with the splashwell had the stepdown and the rear railings. i think im leaving my rear railings off, looks to cluttered imo

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I only knew of 1 other shadow with a front rail like a challenger it was an 81 and it was also notched ?
Tx2 should chime in since they had the original challenger molds and I assume they made at least 1 more hull mold with the notched transom but 4 different top decks My guess would be maybe the one mold was tied up so they used the other in a bind or they were ordered that way.
Also after just looking at gonebys challenger for sale I noticed that the dash is a lot wider than the shadow

Venomous sent me a pic of a io style shadow with a notched transom and there was recently a io for
sale in Miami with notch and windshield

the notch is usually just a plug they stick into the mold, so it should be fairly simple to switch back and forth. the challenger top deck has a much deeper dashboard as you said, i noticed this when i had originally planned to reconfigure my dash and then realized it wasnt going to fit they way i wanted so im leaving it with the factory look
