It has just over 200 hrs ...fresh set of spark plugs..QL77PP's gapped at .035 ....... injectors worked by Brucatos.... new map sensor..... and still a shudder at idle speed .... thinking may have a reed problem.......

is this a major pain to get at the reeds to check......... ???

My reeds on my 3 2001 300x motors seem to last about 200hr. The rubber on the cages deteriorates around the corners. To check them I take off the throttle body and look at the reeds with a borescope. If you see black soot on the conners of the petals it means they are not sealing; and either the cages, the reeds, or most likely both are going bad. If you don't have a borescope you need to pull the whole intake off. I have replaced most of my cages and all of my reeds. When you order a cage from Mercury it comes with reeds. Good luck.

I looked at what a borescope costs.....

    Reeds and/or cages....

I know where those cages and reeds are located now...looked at a parts schemactic on Mercurys website.....I'm not that mechanically inclined...should I let my local Mercury Marine tech handle it....

or is it something straight forward and simple.....like do the nuts and bolts have to be torqed back....need any new gaskets...ans so forth...

    appreciate any and all replies.....
