1987 was the transition year... Some of the 87's were composite, but all the 88's were...
With the years mentioned:
-all are composite except for the XR-2002 which are wood with the very rare exception of a few that were custom built in the early and mid-90's
- The XR-2001 Drag are composite transomed and hull bottom cored, with the exception of the stringers/floor/ and side curtains which are wood...Kevin Kiser

mine is a 86 and on the allison web page under allison first where you can click on the topic and it opens to tell ya a little about the topic is says that the all composit bass boat and the all composit transom and the year is a 1986, I guess the reason i am asking this is because I read up on Allison before i purchased this boat and honestly did not ever look at the transom which looked fine when i bought the boat from the outside but had been worked on and someone tried to brace it from the inside, The inside could not be seen without removing the gas tank. But it never crossed my mind to check it for rot since Allison had that all composit started in 86. I only ran this boat 4 times before if went down like the Titanic, Im really broken hearted about it and the fact that the motor is no good now, So those 4 rides cost me a chunk, Not to mention left a bad impression of Allison with me that i was really proud of when i purchased it.

That is a crappy situation...but it's a 25 year old boat. Any performance boat of ANY age needs to be checked over closely. It's kinda hard to blame Allison for a boat they made 25 years ago that has a completely unknown history.

I did not know that. For some reason I was remembering 89. Guess my Allison brain cells retired.
Deason, man I'm sorry to hear that. that's one of the problems with buying a used boat, it's hard for most of us to know everything to look for. I didn't know the lip on my old Allison had been modified until after I sold it.
Is there any way you could try and rescue your boat? How deep is the water?Last edited by CDave; 11-02-2010 at 08:55 PM.

Oh dude i got the boat back me and a couple buddies pulled it up on a sandbar and rolled motor over in it and built a temp transom out of boards screws and caulk and it got it back to the house. I agree that it is hard to blame allison for a 25 year old boat but i have owned boats inc 2 hydrostreams, that is one of the mail reasons for the allison because i have never seen a hydro with any age on it that didnt have bolts run through transom and bolted behind rear seat, my only problem is that Allison web says that no rot bass boat and transom started in 86. Honestly if i would have known it had a wood transom i would have never purchased one older that a 87 because thst is one of there big selling points, A boat that last a lifetime adn also holds its value for resale. I guess its just what i paid for 3 rides which dont get me wrong were great

Kevin, my old red XR2002 was the 1st 88' boat out of the factory and it wasn't composite. They actually started the composite transomes mid-year. Some of the early light ones had aluminum "H" beams in the transome, but most "production weight" boats had S.S. H-Beams.

arf i havent forgot about you dude i still have to do something with this thing but no need to drill this one the whole transom is tore out inc the top roll side to side to about 1 1/2 inch from the floor. i know my bad luck and i have to deal with it and i will but was lookin for a 2003 and found a couple and called about them and when speaking to Allison owners they are very proud of there boat and told me i should call Allison so ya know but reason i havent sent ya a pic of it yet is i had a couple of wisdom teeth cut out and just havent felt like messing with it but with the help of good pain pills i will get them to you tomorrow.Again thanks for all the nice advice and everyones help on this site. Everyone is really nice and helpful wish i would have found it before i purchased the Titanic hehe maybe could have avoided all the problems.

Oh it would be great if they would but im sure its mine ya know how that goes, I bought a used boat and its all mine lol But trust me if i had the money i would buy me a 2011 cause they are the sweeeeeeeetest boats i have ever seen, but with things the way they are am kinda scared to spend 60000 on a boat rt now. Im almost positive that i will have you repair it and then im gonna get rid of it, But will tell whomever wants it that it has been sunk and repaired
