Tiger is an 89 ci motor, I don't think you can tell anything more from the casting number.

The word "TIGER" is also on the 93 cubic inch 1100 blocks; I have one with the casting number 836-2485. The main difference between the 89 & 93 cubic inch engines is the bore. The 93 cubic inch engines are 2 15/16" and
all other Merc inline 6 two-stroke engines are 2 7/8" bore. (89 cubic inch & larger)Last edited by raymar; 11-17-2010 at 04:33 PM. Reason: wording added

I'll just keep on calling it the 'mongrel'.....
OK, I got down off the porch and ran with the big dogs....kinda sore now....think I'll just lay here in the flowerbed for a while...

Got the mongrel painted, just spray bomb work but the cowl and face plate Jim Rineart sold me looks great.
I like the idea of an aluminum paint on the lower so when the paint blows off it looks better than if it were black, but not sure if I REALLY like the color, too shiny....
This thing is truly a mongrel. One of the tilt shocks was originally WHITE....no telling how old it is. Since it is an unidentifiable 89 CI block, obviously stock garden variety motor on a hi perf. mid it is really a sheep in wolfs clothing. I am concerned that the noise of the open exhaust may turn out to discourage me from using the boat much. Oh well, I hope I have a few days during winter that I can get out and continue to fair the hull, and be ready to spray paint when it gets warm enough in spring.

Looking good Bernie!! No one should have any problem telling it's not a Merc.
Look on the bottom of the carbs for the bore size. The 100 HP Mercs used
1 3/16" bore carbs up thru 1965 models. The 68-69 models used 1 1/16"bore.Last edited by raymar; 11-28-2010 at 03:03 PM. Reason: wrong figures used

Looking at the 1969 Merc specs ... 1 1/16" carbs on early 1000's ---- 1 1/4" carbs on late 1000's (1000-1's) and 1250's
1963 specs show 1 3/16"
1968 spec shows 1 3/32"
Looks like that was the right thing to do and it has narrowed it down.Last edited by Mark75H; 11-27-2010 at 03:47 PM.

Sounds right on the 1 1/16". I was quoting from memory on the 68-69 100
hp engines. Never saw a 100 hp with 1 1/4" bore except 1000 BP. I have either a 68 or 69 1000 that is original, I'll check the carbs on it.
Bernie, it looks like you have a 68 or 69 with carb bores other than
1 3/16.

Thanks Hip, just wish I had some more good weather this year. All I can do for the rest of winter is try and get parts together and work on the trailer. Are you gonna have the 'bus' ready next season?

I am shooting for late spring/early summer. Now that I am all finished with my big move and finally settling in I can get to work on it when the weather is nice to me but have a feeling that nothing will get done until the snow starts to melt but I should be able to really crank it out then and be done with it. Well, Not totally done but it will be on the water anyways.
