People that have had to pay for them like em. I am somewhat bias and perfer Suzuki and Yamaha products. I'am certain it's as good as anything else out there it's just that it's still a two stroke. Thanks Martin

The ones I have sold the owners are very happy with. I am also a Yamaha dealer but think the E-tec is a better way to go.

They have redesigned a couple things on the 2011 to improve the longevity. Added a second oil pump, new pistons and a couple other things. This was on the 250ho and the 300.

i was also wondering this. how would a new evinrude or yamaha 300 compare to a old V8 Omc?
it would be pushing a heavy offshore hull.

An old V-8 is worth between $200,- and $2500,- pending on condition. Worst case scenario you get two V-8's for $5000,- then send them to Monty for another $3500,- each in overhaul and tuning. Compared to two new 300's you now have 200 more horsepower and $30.000,- for gas. Fuel efficient the new motors are, but enough to save you $30.000,- ???
I'm keeping my old V-8's, let me know what you are doing...True Viking

I have that debate in my head at least 3 times a day. I am probably going to keep mine until it farts. Then figure it out i guess.
I would only be going with a single 300 etec or the new yamahaLast edited by sixmassive; 11-09-2010 at 08:26 AM.

The 300 etec will come on plane better than a v-8. Top end probably is similar unless your v-8 has been modified by Monty or another v-8 expert. Then the v-8 is significantly faster. You have to decide whether you want to spend money on gas or the large nvestment of a new motor. The big block etecs have a tremendous amont of low end torque, are very quiet, start every time with no drama, and probably burn about 1/2 the fuel of an old v-8.
Nothing sounds better than a wound up v-8 and unlike the etec, monty and others can make the v-8 a lot stronger and still have a long life motor. Good luck and be happy that you have 2 good options.
