Inline six j-block swap to 115 ADI; serial # question????

So, my 150XS is again, running like $hit, I have access to an ADI 115 complete drop on, but I want to know that it is the version that was prop-shaft rated; i.e. so it is equivalent in power to my older j-block. I have no idea what year the motor is, but I know it has the side plug for the traditional inline harness. I want to check the serial number to verify that it is equivalent to my j-block, so my question is what serial number range would make this motor a good swap. I can check the number this weekend, if its a go then i'll swap it out. They don't call it "labor Day" for nothin' I guess!!

Any ADI 115 over 6440xxxxxx is roughly equivalent to the 150

I'll send someone around to pick up the J block

Awesome, that is exactly what I needed. As far as that J-block goes, I'll be tearing that down when the ice gets on the lake, that is if time permits.

    Very helpful as always Mark75

    Thanks for the info!!!!

I think this could work for a inline 6 and all of your problems go away.

Let's use a 6cylinder reluctor, but really life was a lot simpler with one trigger, one switchbox(with one SCRswitch) and one coil, not much to fail.I wish mercury had used a 6 cylinder mag at some point,so I could graft it onto some projects, yes I know they would have to be even fire applications, chris

There is a problem with 6 cylinder magnetos and the inline 6 Mercs ... in order to generate enough primary power to work the magneto, the magnets have to be large and strong ... stronger than the belt for the inline ignition can drive. If you grafted on bigger pulleys or gears it would work. That's why Merc went to battery ignition on the 6's.

There are 6 cylinder mags out there ... from the olden days of drag racing; I know someone who has a Vertex 6 cylinder mag. I'm sure you can find some if you watch eBay faithfully enough.

Sam,I have several vertex mags but they won't handle the rpm's a two stroke requires( two times the requirement of a four stroke) .I would need a mag from an 18000 rpm 4 stroke, chris

There's more than one version. I'll see if I can find the model of the big one
