    Power pack: CDI vs Sierra

I'm looking for a new power pack for my OMC V4 (90's model with a single powerpack.)

CDI brand power packs are available for about $100 vs Sierra for about $70. They are both 'no rpm limit.'

Is CDI significantly better than Sierra, or are they all about the same and should I just go for the cheapest one?

My marine mechanic friends prefer CDI there's also another inexpensive option mallory as now makes marine parts power packs etc. 2 year warranty . I also was shopping for a power pack for a 225 johnson so I know what your going through mine needed everything , stator , trigger , power pack even the flywheel magnets were loose check yours the CDI website has very good diagnostic's on all the different parts. Also has a good part number x-over for different numbers you can use if you look for used parts like I did.

I prefer OEM, but given the choice between Sierra and CDI, I'd take CDI. I did have a problem with a set of CDI's a couple years ago, the crimp connection on the ground wires were no good making me lose spark.........

I've had good luck with all of them. I think there is pretty much one company making the lion's share for Sierra, Mallory, etc. and even some of the OEM parts, along with CDI.
Bruster's Mercury solid motor mounts, details here:
