02 225x with one piece adapter plate

Hey guys, helping a friend out with twin 02 225x, he changed out his 2 piece adapter plates with 1 piece plates. He still has termostats and poppet valves in place, but little or no water pressure at idle and both engines go into limp mode if he tries to get on plane.I guess the low water pressure switch is not seeing enought pressure, can this setup be made to work?

The one piece adapter plates were not designed to work with motors that have thermostats and poppet valves. Maybe someone else can chime in on exactly what can be done to make this work.

Have a buddy that is running his ProMax on a one piece plate. He replaced the thermostats with restriction washers like in 260's and 280's, and removed the poppit. Basically, it's plumbed like the hi-po 2.5 Mercs now. No problems at all.

Short shaft (15") ProMax's came from the Merc factory with one piece plates.

Exactly right!! Set it up like a HP 260 and you will be fine!! I bought these block off plates for my PM's from EagleOne. They came with the shorter bolts and gaskets.

you should run tstats w/ any steel bore engine, helps establish proper piston/wall clearance. as far as the 1 piece adapter they did offer it(for a short period of time) that was specifically made for the promax/steel bore engines. the way the water dumps out the bottom is different

can a one adapter from a 280 be made to work? These motors had overheating problems from outta the box and a mechanic put these one piece adapters on to run a feed from low water pick ups into the threaded ports on the 1 piece.
