I drilled the hole exactly over the throttle body and it's 3" wide.

I talked to Eric Simon a couple of days ago about the current ecm upgrade for the 225 Pro XS and he told me that in maybe 6 months from now he should have a newer mod with better results. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for better preformance gains.

I had my ECU "upgraded" one year ago (not in the USA) and i didn't see any difference.
I had my ECU upgraded again a few months ago and i am still trying to see some more speed maybe i had a small gain but not something i can say for sure.I am still trying propellers .
I think the ecu upgrade is not enough by it's self maybe the engine needs some more air.
Still trying , i'll be back with the results.

Ive been keeping up with this thread as my Pro XS warranty will soon expire. There was some comments made where too much air into these engines will create a lean condition where they are already running lean.... at what point will opening up the breather box/air inlet hurt them?? I mean, the air is not being rammed into the outboard rather it is sucking the air in.... what gives with that???

    Todd,

That video is really not in the same category as these two mods. We are talking about two simple mods that anyone can do. The outboard in that video has been modified tremendously.

There are a few more mods I understand but I posted it just to prove that it does increase HP without decreasing Torque. I have the dyno sheets that tell what each mod did to increase HP. I'll dig them out and post the results.

Just so I am thinking about this right. Is each modification tested seperately or is it cumlative? Or another way to say it is; Was the hydrotech tuner tested as a stand alone unit (+18.9 hp) or together with the ECM/flywheel (+7.4 hp)?

It was cumulative. Each mod added around 10hp towards the total.

TODD D. And im guessing these dyno runs were made with no air box installed on the motor? In your opinion will modifying the factory airbox like described in this thread add any HP or performance to an otherwise stock optimax merc? Any thoughts?

Not sure it would help the airbox on those has a big hole in the port side. I know that Don Weed with European Marine suggests not to run you opti with the cowl off in fear of leaning in out. I have seen were a few different people made a ram air intake for one???????????

Was this a stock 250XS that made 294.7 out of the crate? Was it driveshaft or propshaft horsepower? Either way it is impressive.
