    Bass Boat to Jet Boat

I see Bass boat hulls that look like they would make a nice jet boat what would it take to pu in an jet drive?

I may just be talking out my @zz here but I would say that the biggest obstacle you would have to overcome with this transformation would be intake location and keeping the pump loaded. Another might be finding a pump that will fit nicely between the stringers without modification. And yet another....stringers in some outboard boats aren't necessarily designed to take the abuse of a V8 tugging on them so keep that in mind as well. Most of the fast bass hulls are designed to run pretty high and dry with the a large precentage of weight hanging off the transom. Removing the motor alltogether would change the CG so much that you have no idea what will that do to the handling characteristics of the hull. Maybe a loader would be enough to keep a pump loaded and accomplish what you are looking to do but who knows....there are ALOT of variables involved with something like this.

my conclusion was they would be less with jet and a outboard is the best way to go with them.

Why would anyone do this? You would get better performance, for less weight, and better fuel economy if you just kept it an outboard.

Not sure if you talking outboard or inboard jet. If it's inboard then my big concern would be the 1000lbs of weight vs. the 400lbs of outboard weight (numbers are rough). The CB of the boat would be pushed even further to the stern. If it's outboard jet then I don't think there would be any advantage or you would see a lot more of them.

Sorry to say this but Don,t waste your time & $$$$$$. I'll use my 1977 Hydrostream V-king 460 BBF 425 HP panther jet for an example.
Howard only made a few prototype jets.
Streams are meant to fly. How much of the boat (outboard) is in the water at wop??? Depending on your driving skills 12 inches to 0.
The jet has to stay in the water at all times or it goes dry.
I have the panther jet. On my panther jet intake It's the pad of the boat (last 12 inches of the boat).
The pump wants to go dry all the time at wop. I have a ride plate on my pump. I had to make the ride plate angle way down into the water to keep the bow down. I have to keep the boat wet & not let it fly.
I will say this, the hole shot is unbelievable. I can stay dead even with the bigger jet skies , until I top out.

Best GPS was 65. It doesn't like rough water.

With 425 h.p.? Do you hear what he's saying? This boat with a properly set up V-6 150 outboard would run 75 or better. With less than half the h.p.

With 425hp properly setup ours run late 70's, probably squeeze more out of it if you were only concerned with straight line speed.

WHY?? And what about the step at the transom?? Why?? My old 20' Cobra 1 will out run a bass boat with less power, outboard power. It could be rigged with ANY type of drive system. The new bass hulls are just a change in time, changing for those new heavy ass merc's. You would be pissing money out the window trying to make a jet boat oout of a bass boat.
