    Timing a 1963 I6 Merc

A friend of mine on the Powercat site has a 1963 I6 100 HP Merc and has some performance issues. A discussion has been going on as to whether it can live on modern fuel with the timing set to factory spec. (32.5 degrees). Apparently the early I6's had low dome pistons and some say it will run on E10 fine with the factory timing, I think it should be retarded 5-6 degrees to live on ethanol. Any opinions?

    Bernie,
I know the fuel now has less "energy" I would be pulling timing, but I hate breaking stuff. The 2.4 EFI bridgeports are a great example of this...
