    Help! with bleeding air from dual motor hydraulic steering.

    I have a DCB Mach 22 with dual 2.5 Mercs hanging off of the back. When screaming along then getting off of the throttle the boat gets real squirly. I noticed that I can push the motors back and forth about 3-4 inches side to side without the steering wheel moving at all. Also when I turn the wheel it rotates about 180 degrees before teh motors move. OUCH!!!

    How do I go about bleeding the air out of the hydraulic system from both motors while keeping the alignment of the steering wheel and the motors in the center of there travel. This is a manual (no electric motor) hydraulic system with two cylinders, one on each motor.

    Trying to get her out today but would like to also be alive at the end of the day. Thanks JG

    Make sure your resevior is full of oil and pressure, then one by one crack open the lines at the cylinders till no air comes out. if its really full of air you might have to refill a couple of times.

    Thanks Buzzin, the problem that I see is bleeding the air out can only be done by cracking the lines on both motors at the same time, turning the wheel and pushing the air out. With this it seems the alignment of the motors to the steering wheel will still get off from one another.

    Maybe crack both lines that push the motors to the left and turn the wheel a known degree until no more air, tighten the lines, now crack both of the lines that push them to the right and turn the wheel back to the known center point verifying that the motors are centered and the wheel is also centered.

    The motors being centered shouldn't be an issue. You do have a tie bar, right? You bleed the air out by cracking the bleeder and turning the helm. Moving the motors won't help. Least that is the way in my case. AND I have never seen a hydraulic steering system where the steering wheel stays centered.
