    Mid/late 80s Merc decal question

    Is this a factory original decal? If so, what year?



    Just doesn't look right to me. Mechanically the rest of the motor looks great in other pics.

    I saw that motor for sale also. Seemed a little pricey to me. I believe they made those decals in 84 and 85. The faceplate does not look right though, kind of "melted" if you ask me. The top cowl does not look right either and the curve of the cowl does not look right either.

    That's a Mariner painted black and decaled as a Mercury. The faceplate decals arestill all wrong if it was a Merc, which it isn't.

    If you look at the pictures carefully there are other problems, with fasteners, hoses, lots of little things. Look at the starter nut, should not be a nyloc but a nut and split lock washer. Definately a Mariner cowl piece.
    Has anyone seen a "Black Max" inline?
