From the looks of it I would guess it's someones personal project. I would say that BRP would make a short mid and not cut one as this one is. As for it being something for the"MERC boys to see a lot of from behind" that will have to be demonstrated. A lot easier said than done. Still looks sweet for an E-Tech but still looks stock with a cut mid to me. Will have to see it in action against those "MERCS" to believe!

It's definately a personal project. Maybe with a little help from a BRP employee but it's definately not a factory project. There's no money in building drag motors. Earlier this year an un-cut 200HO block mounted on a short mid pushed my Uncle's STV Mod-VP to 117 at Clewiston. That was with very little setup/seat time. There's a lot more to get out of it.

Is that the new lower unit in production? and is the ratio 1:73 or something like that, how well does it hold up beeing surfaced? and how high can you run it with the water pick-ups where they are?

This particular one looks like an altered version of the new case. The production nosecone is not nearly as sharp. I believe they have 1:71 gears. They are a bit bulky though. Somewhere in between a OMC V6 and V8 case. My HO gearcase had the side pickups similar to this one's and I couldn't run it nearly as high as I would have liked. I eventually had to go to a standard housing w/Bob's cone.

wonder if that version has carrier/seal problems like the ones I tested.

I don't know about that Hydro, i seen a boat test come out with the 250HO putting up better numbers then the 300xs. I believe it was on a Ranger fully loaded bassboat. Which i can believe cause that 3.2l merc isn't going to compete with that 3.4l's torque. Better 0-30 and top speed,ouch...
250HO comes in lighter, with a new and approved lower unit with 1.71 gears and lower water pickup. Crazy thing is that it kicks a$$ and doing it on the recommended 87 octane. Wow....
Call me crazy, but i think that the 250HO will put a hurtin on that production 280 on a light race type setup. We all know that 2.5 doesn't like them big pitch props, but those etecs prefer them.

It sounds good when you say it, but there again I will have to see it to believe it. thats some pretty big shoes to fill comparing it to a 280 MERC. That E-Tech aint gonna turn the RPM's like a 280 or even a 260 or 300 drag. Not saying it can't or wont be done, I just wont believe it till I see it.
