ETEC Lightning gearcase?
Does the lightning gearcase that comes with the HO's have a low water pickup to allow higher engine heights?

it is a basic style like the bobs combo cones that have the 2 pickups on the sides,no it does not have a true low water.

You can get different size intakes to improve water pick up.
There is 3 different sizes available.

the newer Lightning gearcase has the water inlets positioned lower than on the original Lightning model.
Also the shape of the "bullet" directs more water flow into the inlets which allows a higher transom height for more speed.

uh
Think under tests it did ok to 1 in under the pad,as for the speedo hookup in the nose its a gimmie,if removed its a water pickup.
Ever see a racers mod taped higher holes.Note anything done concerning wp should be monitored via a gauge.
My aftermarket runs pad level quite well,at 28 psi. Id keep that L2 gc at 15 psi,in turns might lose a tad.

Why couldnt you just direct the water from the hole to the speedometer to the Ph to get more water to it.. Seem like aneffective way to add more water for pressuer?

hey mate do you know where to get these intakes from.
Evinrude dealer?
Yeah, Evinrude dealers will have them, they are a stock item for the HO's.
Pretty sure the standard fit up is High Flow but there is 2 other options. We have fitted the Ultra High Flow to our 250. Been able to raise the motor an extra 35mm and still maintain 20psi.
The boat in the avatar is a Concept 1850. Ran it with a 225HO ski racing and even did a couple of Offshore Powerboat races in it. We are now running a B23 Bat Boat with a 250HO in the Offshore series.

Here is a chart of the optional water inlet screens.
The Magnum ( M type ) gearcase, the M2 and the L2 gearcases use the same part number screens.
