1983 Evinrude 175 Gear ratio
I need to find out the gear ratio and the maximum RPM for a 1983 175 Evinrude. Any help would be great. I'm trying to help my dad out, 1,000 miles away.

Thank you Freddy Webb. I'm guessing the maximum RPM to be 5500?

The engine is rated 175 at 5000. The factory recommended operating range was 4500-5500. More conventional thinking is that the engine will be lugging at 4500 and that propping to run at the top of this range is preferred. Running up to 5700 should not be a problem. That engine was shipped from the factory with unlimited power packs. Likely your packs have been replaced over the years. Current factory replacement power packs are rev limiting at 5800. Personally-I would not run the basic 87 octane fuel in this engine. 89 or 91.
