Well yesterday was my official first solo run of the season, and I cant complaint I'm close to my target which is brake 80mph I was able to hit 77mph in a very choppy run, but I was hitting 7000rpm so I need a bigger wheel, what do you guys recommend? I'm running a Trophy Plus 27.

Ivan, that looks more like 78 to me...very nice. I think either sending the prop to have it worked or, even better, experimenting with a 28 chopper may unleash more speed and put you closer to your goal.

Thanks modvp! The prop has been Labbed already and is in way better than new condition
i just ordered a new Hoss 28 to see what happen, next would be perhaps a Bravo 1 28p. But I have to start getting rid of a bunch of props I wont need anymore.

Haveing had alot of boats in the past. One thing ive notice is that if you do the prop slip calculator the Velocitys do NOT shine.I realize that prop slip calculator is nothing more then a rough estimate. That being said over the years when ive used it ive been abkle to make boats faster by seeing what direction im going with the heighth/pitch and set back.I had my Allison really low,I think I got the checkmate starflight to 7 or 8 percent.Doing the math on the velocitys they just dont seem to be as efficiant, anyone else notice this.

On my current set up I am at about 10%; my lower is at 2.5 inches below the pad. Mikeylarge set up is really optimized. He is running very good slip percentage, probably in the 5% range.

The trick with the Velocity is to run it flat on the pad without too much trim. The fact that it will run fast this way makes it a great rough water boat for its size. With all boats you reduce slip when you reduce drag, so gearcase height is the key factor here.
I run mine at full speed, porpshaft about an inch above the pad. I'm not done with dial in but am in the process of trying a few new things. My fastest speed with a 300X so far is 89.9 but will surpass this soon with setup changes. Last years set up I had a slip percentage of 7.23%. That was running a 24' Merc Chopper at 6800 RPM with a 1.62 Sportmaster and regularly got 88.4 & 88.5 speeds on GPS. At 88.5 that was 7.23% slip and I dont think thats too bad for 1985 technology.

Hey Mike
My buddy Dan that towed me in the day I snapped my crank has that now, and it is temporarily stopped. He needs an ECU. I'm trying to talk him into just bucking up and getting a couple Brucatos.

A 80s era hull is a completley different boat then a 94 and up hull. The older ones can get quite a bit lower prop slip due to the weight.I think 10% is about as good as it can get for a newer style hull.Im guessing 94 and up are almost twice the weight of the older ones.If you look at the numbers of the older boats 80 is obtainable with a 225.On the new ones you need a 300x to get there, thats roughly 100 plus hp to get the same speed.

Mikey, that is indeed impressive for a 225. Seems like the work you completed over the winter and a few minor setup changes really helped. There is no way I can expect my 250 to accomplish anything close to your speed due to hull-weight.

Just have to keep digging, theres more speed in it somewhere, atleast that has been my theory! When I put the boat together 3 years ago a number of people on this forum told me I would never see over 75, then I broke 75, and then They swore up and down I would never break 80, and well you know how the story goes haha

You'll never break 90

I think if he had your engine he would. He has a straight & light Velocity. Congrats Mike. I think I might be chasing you soon.
