I RAN A 3.6 ON MY 86 VELOCITY FOR YEARS AND THE BOAT RAN VERY WELL. I WOULD NOT HANG THAT MUCH WEIGHT THAT FAR OUT UNLESS YOU WANT TO SNAP YOUR TRANSOM OFF. MINE WAS MOUNTED FLAT AND UP TWO HOLES AND IT STILL MANAGED TO CRACK THE ALUMINUM PLATE ON THE BACK. THE 3.6 I BELIEVE IS ALOT HEAVIER THAN EVINRUDE HAD CLAIMED. I DO NOT WANT TO POST NUMBERS AS I DO NOT HAVE A GPS.... LONG STORY BUT THE 3.6 SHOULD GET YOU IN THE 80 RANGE. i WAS RUNNING A WORKED SPINELLI 24 RAKER STYLE PROP.. I THINK THE PITCH WAS BETTER THAN 24 AND I WAS TURNING 6350 RPM'S. FYI HAD A 3.6 ON A 220 BAJA SPORT WITH A GILL BRACKET THAT MANAGED TO BREAK THE TRANSOM FROM THE DECK.... MOUNT THAT 3.6 ON THE BOAT NOT OFF. HOPE THAT HELPS GOOD LUCK.

Depending on how you set the boat up, and how much weight you have in it (people, coolers, gear, fuel etc) a 225-250 3L merc will put you right in the mid 70's to low 80s. I personally have an 03 225 3L and i ran 80 on the dot with mine. As far as a 300x Jamesgang just put down a 89.9 pass the other night, and his boat has a full interior (carpet, stereo, backseat etc). Water conditions have a great amount to do with motor setback. If you run in mostly calm water I would go with 12-14 inches of setback (trust me the boat will love it!), but if you favor running in the ruff snotty stuff then I would stick somewhere in the 5-8 inch range. My opinion on motor height is jack it as high as you can go and just through more prop at it until you run out of water pressure, but I am sure there are plenty of people on here that will argue that. I ran 80.0 at 5800 rpm with 1.75 gears and a 28p prop and my theory works for me!

Ok mikeylarge, thanks for your input.
I have a Bob´s dealer around the corner so therefore I decided to order from there.
I will go for a fixed setback bracket with 6". See attached link:
http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/...k_brackets.cfm
Except for the bracket I will try to decrease the weight as much as possible.
Has anyone the figures regarding weights on the V22s, newer, older, kevlar or not????i

Our 98 is under the knife.New 10" hydraulic jackplate will be on this weekend.I have a 250xs with hyrdotec tuner lightened flywheel/6800 limiter that will be going on in place of the std.225 opti.I will replaceing all the guages as well.I would like pics of 94 and newer Stepp interiors. Our rear seat is different then others ive seen.I will be removeing the interior to redo it and save some weight in the process.Any pics of interior designs would be nice. Thanks Aaron

*Update* 2004 Velocity 220: S glass and vinylester resin construction.
Motor: 1999 Merc 250 EFI
Setback/Jackplate: Stainless marine ~5 inches
Factory Setback: 9”
Engine Height: Prop shaft ~2.5” below pad
Prop: 14.625x24 Tempest plus
Engine RPM: 5800 rpm
Speed (GPS): 67 mph.
Loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids, full tank of fuel and gear. It would probably be faster if I could shed some weight.

With remodeling our house a priority,I havent had time to work on the boat much.I do have the powerhead on and poppit diverter installed.I should have a Brians foil here in the next day or two, hopefully to help on the 40mph or so porpoising.I could be on the water this weekend but im not sure.Hard to get much done when you get home at midnight.

Hey Aaron, I am hoping to see an improvement in your speed now that you've upgraded the powehead to a 250xs and have removed some weight. I need to find time to lighten up my rig too.
I did upgrade my midsection to a 250XS unit and I am now at 2.5 inches below the pad. I don't have a LWP so I doubt I can go much higher. I know more speed is there in my rig though but I tend to always have a full load of fuel and gear for the kids.

Yeah Mikey, that is what I think. It has a little more, but not much. Having owed a 1985 feather weight velocity and now this 2004 I am now more than convinced that my 2004 is an over weight offspring. I was at the Velocity factory a little less than a month ago and I was informed that the newer model are a little heavier at about a little less than 2000lbs rigged without engine. It was very easy for me to lift the front of my 85 model and move the boat/trailer around but I cannot with this model. It will probably do 72 once I put her on a little diet.

Hey Guys how is going?
According to what I have heard here, yeah they are heavy rigs, and is not easy to break the 80's, you need more than perfect conditions for that. We'll see this season, I have a new set up. I know I will take some heat here, I got a good deal on a Sporty 1:87, so I may be loosing some speed, but so far the boat is more stable over 70mph, and I love the look of the Sporty. I ran 74.2 with 3 people and half tank with a Trophy plus 27 almost hitting the limiter. the boat is way more easy to drive. I think I need more bow lift, i will try to find a Bravo1 28p or a chopper2 28 to see what it does.

Even if you lose a mph or 2 with that gearcase, it is well worth it if the boat handles better!!!

Crimeinc2 What Hydromotive are you rung, O/T 4bld?
I'm running a 22" O/T 4bld on mine and have been wondering if that's the best one for Velocity 22'. My only dislike is you have to throw a lot of trim to it to allow the motor to wind up. This is likely a characteristic of low torc from the 280 at lower r's. Been thinking about adding more setback to mine getting it to 12". So far nothing else comes close to overall perf of this prop. I've tried big ear choppers, and trophy knock offs.
'89 22' Velocity
'99 2.5L 280hp Offshore (rev limit 8200)
prop is 22" Hydromotive O/T 4 blade
5" Hydraulic jack plate (usually run about 1" below pad)
Last GPS run was 73mph @7400rpm
I've been curious what change I could expect if I traded out to a 3.0L 300. I honestly feel the boat is too heavy for my high strung 280. I think it will be more lakable with 300.Jeremy Lewis
