My Hydromotive is the Quad IV OT its 14 3/4 dia 22" pitch. My lower is a CLE I have a '99 280 power head sitting on a '93 260 mid and lower. This same prop same pitch would likely work for you too. These are not too easy to find used, I've never run the Hoss but have seen one it would likely work pretty good.

The HOSS HPD is a large ear, 3 blade with progressive rake and large tip area with a tight cup. It has a very strong hole shot bite as well as top end grip for higher motor heights and speed. It also gives excellent stern lift along with bow lift to carry a heavy boat. It looks like a chopper but performs like a 4 blade. They are all custom made, labbed and balanced and perform like nothing I can compare it to. The HPD is for larger heavier boats and offshore heavy use and what you want over the triton version. Go one pitch higher then what you think you need since it is a 3 blade. You will not be disappointed as i was surprised beyond believe after first time trying one. They are made in 14.5 and 15" dia. you might want to just call Tim at HOSS propellers and ask his opinion about your set up and what might work. He is on the site here.

If you don't have enough 'tip' blade area you will have too much slip and it will hurt your performance. A prop is the last thing you want to skimp on if you want good performance out of a boat like yours. I'm running a HPD 14.5 X 31 in my top picture. JMOP

An offshore mid section has a large exhaust relief, that's why it sounds so good. However its just a relief, some exhaust still goes down and out the lower unit housing. The exhaust set up is right, you just need a different style prop allowing more aeration on the blade. When you get the right prop on it will be a big difference. The Hoss mentioned above sounds like a good one to chase if your looking used. If your going to drop the bucks and buy new contact Hoss or Hydromotive direct and explain current setup and numbers. Both are great shops with great products and will build you something that works very well.

Jeremy- i gotcha...thought it all came out above the cav plate...never looked. I just pulled out the three plugs in the tempest, will test holeshot next week. so at 7500 with that 22p, what are you running mph wise? do you think you could get a 175lb slalom skier out of the hole with that setup?

Limit-cool, sounds good!! the velocity might not make it out sunday, still working on jackplate and tach signal....but may swing out with the pursuit, let me know!

Low 70's with my setup. My '89 rig is a little on the heavy side, fully decked out under the bow. Wife and kid love the dry storage up front though. I think my Hyromotive 22P could pull skier but have never done it. It would be a smoother pull with my backup prop. I keep a 21p Trophy copy as backup incase I hit something or need to pull heavy loads.

Interesting....I am running a 24 tempest but my tach isn't working...I will have that fixed soon. I will figure all of this out soon, so with a 22p hydro at 7500 I will do low 70s..about? I think my sporty is 1.87? Is yours the same?

Here she is at Peanut a few months ago, we've added some small flags on the hull at the bow since.
I'm still working on her set up and have had her since the start of the year.
My focus has been all round use as a family boat ,with a full load 4 to 5 persons and 1/2 tank or more of fuel.
My final choice for a prop so far is a Mercury Racing Bravo XS 25 pitch.
This has allowed me good on plane time and decent top end around 76+ depending on the load.
The motor is a 300xs with a 1.75 sport master has no problem getting to the limiter with this prop.
My feelings are that a Bravo XS 27 or 28 will probably be the next step and will hopefully put me in the low maybe mid 80's( a speed prop is my next goal).
I have a few props that I've kept over the years that might help you find something you like.
I have some Hydromotive Quad IV's a 21,and a 22 which might help with your WOT decisions.(these are my old race props I 'm nostalgic about these).
I also have a Quad IV OT 20 which I use on another boat it might give you a feel for on plane response.
I also have a 22 Chopper small/and large diameter from another boat.
    Hope this can help.

    Roger

PS That's my 3yr old in the boat + about 13

Sweet ride my man!!! Wished mine looked that good!!! Sounds like a plan with those props....one of those will give me a better idea of what prop i need for my setup. What rpm are you hitting the limiter? i believe my sporty gears are 1.87 and should run up to 7500 ( i think and hope anyway!! )
