Also, if anyone has any info to pinpoint if this motor is a 94 or 95....245 or 260hp? I looked, but the block number is OD935844FF and can reference as either...any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Interesting....the prior owner said it was a 95 efi 260, but they took off the efi and put carbs and velocity stacks on it for some reason....he said thats how he bought it. The safe rpm range on this should be around 7000? Thanks85nova! I will measure the mid tonight. I still am having a hard time understanding the prop shaft height....it blows out as soon as i come over the hump, which means the shaft is too high getting on plane. I will mess more with it~~

Do u have a manual or hydraulic jack plate? Is the motor on the lowest bolt hole settings where it mounts to the jack plate? I believe if it has carbs its a 245 hp, same motor I belive but more hp with the efi, have you tried any different props? If you try a prop that is made to run on the surface it might help

That motor with an efi is a 260, the same motor if you take off the efi and put carbs on it is a 245. Very simple.

Jkxlr8 what diameter is the prop you have on it in the pics.If its less then 14 1/2" it more then likely will blowout unless your running a 4 blade.

The prop is a tempest 24...probably 14.5, I will measure it tonight but it definitely is a 24p. I havent tried any other props...I have a bravo 1 24 from my Cigarette, but that wont work. The jackplate is hydraulic (bobs)...I need a new cylinder, its rotted out...nobody in palm beach county can fix it...trying to buy one now from bobs. I can drop the motor two holes on the jackplate, I think that might help. But this motor has no low end, it struggles out of the hole. Its got good compression, and runs like a raped ape as soon as I get on plane. I will have the engine dyno'd next week and have it tuned, will drop it two bolt holes and get a new cylinder and go at it again.

You could just have a bad water pressure gauge. I had to change my after just one season last year. It happens. My 250 OX66 runs 0-5 at slow speed but 15-20 while running..... if the gauge is working right.

Just got a new bobs jack plate cylinder, looks like it will fit. When the motor is put all the way down, how far should the shaft go below the pad? This is a 10" setback and 6" lift. Thanks for any help. I am thinking 3" below all the way down?

3" below is fine but no lower. Tempest props are not good hole shot props and to be honest you should have a 3L motor on that as the added torque will work much better for you overall. Try and find a HOSS HPD (hyperdrive) in 24 or 25 pitch for your current set up.

I run a 2.5L 280 which has all the same internal engine parts as your motor with the exception of some different porting and external components. Yes these engines have limited torque on the low end. If you get your prop and motor height right you'll have no issues getting on plan to get the engine into a range it has real power. I'm not sure the Tempest is right, you have no torque because your prop is biting too much, you see your exhaust is relieved above the lower unit so you don't have enough exhaust flowing across the blades to allow them to slip. I run a Hydromotive OT which means half exhaust goes through the hub but half goes over the hub. My boat planes quick with just the right amount of blowout to get the R's up but not loose bite.

Will depend on what prop you get but I suspect 2" below pad is where you want to be.

Oh, Yes you can run your motor at 7500, you need to be over 7000 to make peak power. That motor will stay together well over 7500 but you'll sacrifice life. I'd prop it to top at 7500.

Limitless-I'm in palm beach gardens...been tweaking the boat for two weeks after work, let's meet up! Where are you located?
jlewis- great info, thanks! Do you have a sport master on your 280? I didn't think nor did I see exhaust come out my prop shaft housing. What diameter and pitch hydro motive do you have ? Maybe I'll try one a few pitches less?
