Hey guys, just picked up an 85 velocity with a 1994 2.5 260hp, 10in atlas jackplate and 24 tempest with long eddie marine tabs. Just had it out for the first time, seems to have a hard time out of the hole....once it gets up, it over revs...I let off then it catches....I messed with the jackplate up and down, didnt mess with the tabs, and messed with the trim. What is this motor supposed to spin rpm wise and do i drop the jackplate all the way down to start out then raise it to about 1" (propshaft) below the pad? thanks guys, interesting thread!!!

How are you guy running 300x motors liking them? I'm looking to repower my 85 and was thinking about a 300x, I have a 2.5 200 on it now and have seen 71 on GPS, I was thinking either a 300x or 260 or 280

I would go with the 300x if you are looking to come out of the hole quick....my 260 has no low end. Pulling out the 3 plugs in the tempest tomorrow to see if I can get a better holeshot.

I love the 300X on these boats. Mine comes out of the hole great and runs 90. Bens same thing and runs over 90. Go with the X over a 260 or 280. I know a 260 on one of these runs mid to high 70s if that what your looking for, hole shot not even close.

The 260,280s would be my last choice simply becouse haveing to watch the hours on them. The 300x is the fastest and very reliable however for cruising its very thirsty.I have a 250xs on a heavier newer hull then your 85 and ive been very happy with it I thinking a every day speed is around 75 for it.However its great on fuel when cruising,I think they drink just as much when on the floor as as the 300xs/300x.

I'm running 5" set back hyd. jack. Center of propshaft about 1' to 1.5" above bottom of boat. Running up at top speed till just before we lose too much water pressure approx. 11lbs. My gearcase is a Sportmaster with 1.62 ratio. The prop that Ben got 90.8 on my boat was a labbed 26 Pro ET. My best so far is 89.9, the little SOB beat me with my own boat! His has 4" setback same thing for height. His Sportmaster is a 1.75 so were using different props. We have a 30 pro ET but he hasn't been able to turn it good in the heat of the summer. We really have to get a labbed 28 Pro ET for his. Right now he is using one of my old labbed Hydromotive 27 OB4 from my Sutphen and is getting over 90. We will try to get some better #s on his soon. With the economy the way it has been we just haven't been buying props to try the way we had been in the past. His boat is quite a bit faster than mine is thorough even as it sits.
What are you getting out of your Activator and whats your setup?

A little off topic on setup, but I notice that a lot of superboats and challengers and older race boats have the lifeline cable with stanchions (3) attached to the bow....are there any pics of a 22 velocity with this setup? And where do you buy those angled stanchions? I think it looks pretty cool on the superboats/challenger/rallys!

Nice info ! Those Hydromotive OB4's run strong also it seems. With so many different props to run to find the best for every boat, it starts to drive you crazy!
LOL
Lack of a Hydraulic jack plate has cost me in dialing in my best so I'm changing that real soon. I've spent most my time running with 2 aboard and 3/4 (45gal) tank so with only a 250 I'm not up to your numbers. Ran with Mikey a few weeks ago and we seem pretty close to give you an idea.
3/4" -1 1/4" above w/ 10" setback.
My boat likes Yami T-1 29, Hoss HPD 30-31, Spinelli DR4 30, or turbo lightning 28 so far.Last edited by dnelson964; 10-12-2012 at 09:26 PM.

Off topic but fun. This is from last weekend up in Long Lake. This was Bens boat when he was 7 and I gave it to my friends son last year. We have a better video of him jumping some waves but its longer and were having trouble getting it off his smart phone.
