I went to Allisons website first then called and ordered one after doing some research. They only have 2 to chose from I believe. They were very helpful on the phone, but remember it will not fit the same as on an Allison. You have to fit it to your application and I had to experiment with heights for my liking.1990 22' Activator Yami HPDI 300-sold-86.4

Yes the Plate never touches the water while running fast and I don't want it to. It helps my Hole shot, plane off, and slow speed plane. I guess if I dropped the stern in off a large roller it might help keep me more level then w/o also.
Hope I have not confused anyone. To quickly clarify... I originally was trying to reduce a little porpoise/ hop I had even into high speeds. I had started making a few changes over time. First was reducing as much stern weight as possible to help better balance my boat as it was clearly too bow light. then I kept reducing setback a little at a time along with trying many different props. When I got the boat to fly more balanced it ran flatter, went faster, had little to no porpoise and ran through rough waters much more easily like it was on rails. I never after that felt the need for any trim tabs to aid rough water control or bouncing because it was just overall more stable now. I was happy with the obvious better balance and hence handling change. However I was left with a slow and high nose hole shot and poor slow speed planing we all have to some degree with the 3.0L excess weight and that I wanted to improve. That is what the Drag plate helps.
Hope that better sums things up.
PS. I have learned much from many on here sharing their experiences of set up and changes so I am happy I can give some first hand knowledge back if it can help anyone.Last edited by dnelson964; 08-31-2012 at 03:51 PM.

I did reduce the jackplate from 12 to 10 this year. The 10 i have is a cmc powerlift.Id be down to T.5 if removed the brackets it comes with.Im not sure that would be enuff. This boat seems heavy.I have worked on it to an extent to reduce weight though. We have a baby due in late Jan or Feb so my work on boat time is getting less.We are thinking of redisigng the seats though. The rear seat must way 100lb and the side panels top and bottom are quite heavy as well. One thing i have thought of is makeing the jackplate more boent.I did that on the allison and it helped it sit higher at a rest as well as not drop fown so far when takeing off.Sorry for mistype i had surgery this morning so typeing on the phone is ever harder.

Aaron,
If you decide to go with something like a pair of Bob's Machine spacers and part with the spacers that come with the CMC I'd be interested as I could use them on my 5" CMC hydraulic plate.

Hey Aaron, was just reading through here and saw you had surgery. Hope everything is OK. Hey If you sell those to John he is a buddy of mine and a great guy, he won't mess with your time like some people do.

Checking out that skid planner. I see allisons have a step like my super does. Wouldnt that be like just getting rid of the notch?

Yes, Allisons have a similar pad, just less severe dead rise.
It's more like extending some extra 'push-up' area near to the motor to help get the transom weight up on plane. Then also helps from falling back off plane when slowing. It lifts totally out of the water as speeds go up and you are on the pad.
Since it helps the Drag guys so much they patented the plate shape. All I can say is after playing around with it on my boat I will never take it off.
However, All boats are different so I can't guaranty it will help everyone and the height to set it at might have to be played with for best results.Last edited by dnelson964; 09-09-2012 at 07:43 PM.

Im going to stick with 10" cmc setback,I think the boat needs at least 10" for lift.I do need to move some weight from the drivers side to the passengers side,so ill move the oil tank over.It is roughly 25lbs so removing 25 from one side to the other will be like adding 50lb to the other side.Ive always set the boat up to run with 2 people but ill look at what else I can do to set it up more even when solo.I will remove the tabs as well since I really havent been using them and the weight loss may be added bonus.Im not sure when Ill get to the drag plate or my own version of it but that will be soon.My boating buddy(wife) is more like a 35 to 40mph boater now since she is 19 weeks along. So shes in no hurry to go any faster as of now.I have been working on her about getting a second boat for skiing and etc.The velocity just doesnt work that great for skiing.Id like a smaller v6 i/o openbow oldschool metalflake boat.If I can find a 2nd boat the velocity will be free to do watever I like.

Pulled the tabs off today. The bennett sport tabs are no way neer as heavy as K-planes.In total I believe it removed 38lb from the rear.I also moved the oil tank over to the passenger side.I wont be able to do get to building a dragplate of sort for a while. We have the NW Scream and Fly Rendz. this weekend and will be leaving tomorrow night.I will say I dont believe saving the 38lb from the rear will see much if any advantage.I more so did it to make it a bit more simple.
