Whats the fastest anyone has heard of the newer style hull going with a outboard regardless of what type of motor.I know some boats came without he cuddy.I talked to Kenny at Velocity andhe said th hulls without the cuddy were about a hundred pounds lighter.I noticed NAVISPEEDS cuddy is different then mine, after talking to some people we found out his came with no cuddy and the previous owner added it.Somewhere online I heard that NAVISPEEDS boat was neer 90mph without a cuddy and a 300x, but was a bit out of control.Neither him or I could ever varify this,I do believe it to have been a Lake X boat at one time.Does anyone have pictures of one with the cuddy cabin delete from the factory.Again im only talking about newer hulls the older ones are a completly different animal.I believe the width of the hull will only allow this boat to go so fast regardless of power. That being said how much different is the actuall speed with a weight loss of that amount on the nose of the hull.Id guess may 3 or 4mph,im just not sure even with takeing it to just the stringers if there 100lb to save up front.

What did you mean about the width of the hull ?
I assumed that the old and new hulls were the same except w slight mods but the decks were different.
I never really saw an old next to a new and compared them12 Velocity 220 - 12 Mercury 300xs

I believe the hulls are the same physically.Everything from the rubb rail up is different.Id guess the newer hulls are almost 2 times the weight of the 84-85 boats.I talked to Velocity the other day, your new hull will be a bit lighter then a few years previous. The width of the hull is what I feel slows the top speeds down a bit.The superboats/progressions are narrower and that helps on the big end.The Velocitys do everything extremely well and have a ton of room in them for a 22ft boat.It just seems it takes alot more hp to get the newer hulls to run faster than 80.

I weighed my newer hull (1994-made without a cabin and mostly Kevlar) and it weighed about 2300 lbs included 300XS/jackplate.
I hard to belive that the older hull could be 2 times lighter

I do not agree with you as far as the width of the boat slowing you down.... My Velocity and my Progression run identical speed numbers with the same motor/prop/setup...... All other characteristics are different. I bet the 2 boats were within 50 lbs of eachother also

Mikey, I agree with you about the width of the boat. I think the biggest contributing factor is the additional weight of the newer design hulls. I’ve had an older design velocity (a 1984) for 10 years, and a newer designed hull (2004). There is considerable weight difference between both; with the newer hull in the range of 300-500lbs heavier.

The newer designed bare hull weight (without engine) of a Velocity 220 is approximately 2000-2100 lbs. Add a 500lbs outboard and you're in the range of 2500-2600 lbs.

Between the wide pad, and the way the edge of the chines hook and pocket the air... My velocity was more efficient at lower speeds. I feel these items allowed the boat to have a large amount of natural lift. Where superboats and progressions really need to get up in speed before they start to ride high

Yep, the velocity hulls are very efficient at low and high speeds. I can run with a full load of fuel/passengers/gear and stay efficiently on plane at 25-2700 rpm; at that rpm fuel burn is relatively low and my speeds are right around 25-28 mph. I can stay on plane at about 18 mph.

Back in the day when all I could do was watch the 22 Velocitys go by on the Chesapeake Bay, I started to look into them in the late 80's. The literature then was 1,500 lbs (can't put my hands on it at the moment) and the literature on the 1990 that I have (the Regal years) lists the OB at 1,900 lbs. Mine is definitely heavier than a few other mid 80's boats that I've seen. All and all, I have loved my 22. It has been an awesome ride and looks like a 2000 plus.
