Congratulations on the new ride Mikey Sweet!!!!!

Slowly working on my plan with my Velocity 220
Hocking all toys to make this happen
Will begin to post pictures soon
Been reading a lot on the Merc 200xs 2.5 race motor w a 15" shaft
Seems that the lower center of gravity ,weight and heavy duty build seem to make for a positive experience
However all seem to be on lighter hulls like Allisons etc.
Does anyone have any feedback or real world experience w this type of set up on a Velocity ?
Being a little nostalgic maybe I used to have a 21 Apache w a 2.5 Carb in the early 90's loved the wide open sound of the Race Mercs, but only ran about 70mph on a good day

Hi There, about the motor, the 200xs is a great motor but for a lighter hull unless you want to hang two of them!! , I would not go with anything less than a 250xs and if you want to enjoy and have fun, The perfect motor for your rig is a 300xs, I made the big mistake of going from 300x to 250xs thinking that I wasn't going to loose too much top end, but I was wrong, instead I should have hang a 300xs . with the 250xs you will be running very low 70's . with the 300xs you will be doing high 70's. Just my 2cents!!!
The best set up would be to go with the 300xs, and eventually add a DBR phase 1 kit, and you should be running low 80's which is unreal fun!!!!! JMO. Good luck with the new rig Buddy!!

I wouldnt put a 200 on it unless its a 84 or 85 hull.A 250xs will run in the mid to high 70s on a newer velocity, speed is in the set up and prop choice.Stock to stock there is not 50hp difference between a 250 and 300xs,real world hp difference is around 35hp.Ive ran 76 with my wife myself 52 gallons of gas and 2 batteries.I believe solo and low on fuel there is more there. My set up is less then ideal at this point as well. One thing I have noticed is that the 250xs is very sensitive to altitude.Mine tends to run very fat above sea level.I have a hydrotec tuner in mine simply becouse my mid is a std. 225 optimax and the tuner was not gonna work out.Setback is a huge thing on the newer hulls do to the weight and the fact they like to run flatter then other boats.Trophy plus is about as good as it get for a all around prop.

Speaking of altitude... I boat between sea level and 7200 ft above sea level. Anyone have power recomendations given that scenario?

My Velocity Finally went to a new home. It will have a great life with the new owner. She gets to live with many other go fasts, and will often get out to play with a few of her siblings. The new owner did happen to mention, he will make the boat run faster then my 84mph at some point, and that it is game on for next season when i bring the progression out to play! Can't wait to see it back out there!
