when an opti flares up it is most likely two things, one can be leaking injectors or the orings around the injectors are leaking. remove the fuel rails from the block by taking the 4 locknuts that hold the rails to the studs, look into each port on the railsand have someone cycle the key just to turn the fuel pump on(do not crank the motor)look for and fuel that may be leaking. the second would be a bad tps not returning to dead idle. you will need a ddt to check that one. hope this helps

Don't overlook the tracker valve on the starboard head. The diaphragm can develop a small tear and then extra fuel gets delivered through the bad diaphragm. and this causes the engine to misbehave badly. The diaphragm can be replaced.

Mine was doing the same and resolved when i cleaned the tps. The tps had some grimey buildup accumulate on the arm and roller. Cleaned it all up real well and it stopped.

The TPS and throttle linkages on the 3.0ltr where a bit iffy, if you plug in the laptop you will prob find the TPS is sitting at about 10-15% at idle
there was a recalibrated ECM and new TPS arm that fixed the issue, otherwise you have to play around with the link that goes to TPS or throttle roller (early ones where non adjustable, later had a screw thread one end)

after new compressor issue stoped , they scaned and looked for codes was about it ,
But issue came back about 75 hours after new compressor , but only when cold , then my kicker started acting up and found some water in fuel , clean out and issue stoped , noticed that spark plug gap was getting a bit wide so changed plugs and will see if all goes away to day on start up
