here are some of the hull build pictures.

The white gelcoated area in the bow is a huge storage compartment, which the original 16's didn't have.

Balsa core extends all the way to the bow. Between the two bulkheads will be filled with foam, also the outside of the stringers are also filled with foam.

Next the floor goes in. It is assembled and glassed together outside the boat as 1 piece.

Yesterday I cut the rigging holes and installed the rod holder boards and popped the hull. Also gelcoated it.

Good to see the shop is still able to keep busy in this crappy economy. Nice boat, simple yet very solid construction. Keep the pics coming. I am sure everyone enjoys seeing the boat construction process.

CDX. The wood is fiberglassed on both sides. Also the floor is assembled and glassed together as one piece prior to being installed.

    Looks very nice

How do you apply that gelcoat? With a brush or roller?

How much grams/m² and how much pigment?

I realy like the gelcoat floors but I dont like the weight. I used 23pounds to do the the entire inner side of the hull up to the rubrail for a 18Ft boat. Which is a lot of weight in my opinion. If I would paint it than it can be done with maybe 3pounds of paint...

The interior of the hull took 6 Qts., or around 14 Lbs. Roll and tip the sides and roller on the sole. I don't add pigment, I use Gelcoat.

    OK,

Cool, I agree that marine grade is not needed in all cases, so long as it is sealed up good. I like marine grade for the transom though, just because of the extra laminations.
