The marine pump has the extra nipple on it so that if there is any internal damage done and it breaks the sealing ring inside it will be pushed through that nipple as opposed to just dumping it in the bilge. On my fathers OMC I ran a fuel line from that nipple to a fitting on the intake, so that if it were to break internally it would just flood the engine as opposed to running the engine lean. But you can just loop it back to the fuel tank as well.

It is one of those items that probably 9999 out of 10000 it will never be needed but if you do need it, it is better than having fuel dumping in your boat.

    All good info right there!!
All marine Holley's have those vent fittings.
I vented back into my slosh tank because I run a slosh tank.
You can vent back into your gas tank by putting a small hole in your filler hose and inserting a 1/4 bard coupling so you can attach the hose.

Yep, Holley makes the red and the black in Coast Guard approved Marine versions that are vented. Coast Guard wants if vented back to the intake or to the tank.

2 ounces of fuel in the bilge, and a spark, has about the same effect as a torpedo.

Most fire extinguishers die of old age, unused. However, if you need one, there's no substitute.

Many BBC's had a return line to the pump which would allow excess fuel pressure back that way instead of blowing the needles off the seats. Chevy bounced back and forth on what they used them on. On some early Special High Perf engines, like the early 60's 409's rated at 425 horsepower, there was a return line, but later, like on the late 60's 427's and 396's, the high horse versions DID NOT use the return, while the lower horse versions of the same engines did. In any case I believe the ones on the BB Chevy pumps are return lines rather than vents or emergency bypasses like the Holley Red.
