GamblerHydra, me being a Evinrude Sales guy (NOT HERE THOUGH) Im very happy that your experience has been good, 99% of my Etec guys are happy, the other 1% is the Poor guys that bought 2005 Early Big Blocks (before all bugs were worked out),the small ones are beyond bullet proof.....Good luck John, you will not regret it.

Thanks you guys for the information. I probably couldn't go too wrong getting one. I do like what I've heard so far.
Appreciate it.

Just wanted to jump on here and Thank Brannon for the guided advice on picking out a 25 etec! I just picked up the boat and threw it in the drink and ran some quick tests.
Boat is a 1998 Alumacraft V14ltd tiller. Dry weight is 500. I have 140 pounds of batteries, one in front at 80 and starting battery at 60 in back. I weigh 190.
Motor was 25 etec tiller with tilt/trim. I was on fence about getting 30. Original motor that I replaced was 1988 Johnson 40 tiller with tilt/trim.
Original motor pushed the boat at 32 mph same setup on gps. But ate gas and oil! Holeshot wasn't very good and took longer than I would have guessed with a 40hp on a 14 ft boat.
New 25 etec pushed the boat at 27 and some change with my gps. Incredible thing was, once i pinned the throttle, the front end jumped up immediately and I was on plane in about the length of the boat or two. Impressive, impressive, impressive!
I slowed it down to as slow as I figured it could go, and hit 1.6 on my gps.
This was just a quick test so I didn't mess with much of trim angle and weight distribution.
I figure I can get my boat to hit 30 mph with a few tweaks here and there and moving weight around and the motor goes through more of its own breakin period.
I am overly pleased I went with the 25, the 30 didn't seem worth the extra cash, but had me worried as I was dropping all the way from a 40. Brannon was right on when he said that this etec 25 pushes about like a new 40 4 stroke!
Thanks,
Ben

OH come on now
i was just asking if there was a problem with them..my first outboard was a 1951 7 1/2 rude...loved the little motor..then 25 hp 1954 johnson then a 1955 elec start rude...even owned a Chrysler 105 hp..it was a great eng in its day..no speed but lots off power for pulling kids for skiing..
i worked on them all from 1950's till 2005...now that i am retired its all merc's..i am giving my son the 15 hp 4 stroke and have rebuilt a 2003 yr merc 25 hp 2 stroke..only got a old glass 14 ft fishing boat...and i play with a 13ft glass blue tunnel...got three different engs i have made out of e-bay parts...just keeping bussy..
the E-tech on e-bay is going for $1000 right now..16ft stylecraft 150 Fmerc (force)
