Greg, I have been comparing idle quality at the marina to other opti's both older/newer 2.5's and 3.0 litres. It is noticeably better than older opti's, the new 250 pro xs on a freinds boat is similar. Mine has a distinctive sound/ very smooth. You can bump the base idle speed of 600 down to 550 or up to 1000 in 10 rpm increments using the smartcraft guages with the transitions almost being imperceptible. YES that good. Having another 1000 rpm of useable powerband on top is icing on the cake.

That is pretty impressive......all that down low and 245ish HP. What do you figure the weight is all in with lower and fluids? I know you can only get the GenII 200XS is only available in SS so you have the weight of the external pump.

Where did you get the 245ish hp number from? Has anyone run one of these on a light (stv, allison, mirage, etc) hull yet? While I loved my 05 200xs, it was by no means in the league of a 225x or promax by any means. For overall run quality, there is nothing better. And in reality, the price is not too far out of bounds for what youre getting (shorty mid/ sporty). Most the Etec guys probably spend that if not more after shortening and recurving ECU's. I bet youd fall short of that HP claim if it were on a dyno.

Thanks for the offer Micheal, but Im busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest right now. If those HP claims are made true, I may be placing a second call to MR marine in Fon Du Lac for another 200xs.

It's possible that it's 240 crankshaft HP. It can't be more than 220HP at the propshaft by law (+- 10% is all you can advertise). Price is relative (aren't they all ridiculously priced brand new?). E-Tecs are starting to show up used at much more reasonable prices. Not too many 200XS motors out there used. I think the 200XS is a sexy bitch though.

The rating tolerance for marine engines over 60 HP is only 5%, The 240 hp figure comes from merc. Obviously not many GEN2 motors out there yet. All I can say is buck up boys. These puppies are more than cute and they really wake up above 6500. The hp figures cannot convey how effortlessly they spin up, the snappy throttle response up high is a real treat. My engine I.D. tag indicates a HP rating of 225 which using the 5% rating tolerance in the middle of the stated WOT operating range adds up close to 240. With an available 4000 propshaft rpm these are in a league of their own.

A friend of mine has a GenII and it also states 225hp on the plate at the swivel bracket.

According to Merc Racing sources the 225 rating on the bracket was a misprint. Also here in Sweden the GenII ha been in the dyno and it does NOT produce 240 hp. But it is a sweet engine nonetheless. I've got a Gen1 20" on my raceboat and I love it to bits.
