The best thing about the merc racing motors is the resale value, see what a normal motor will bring in 10 years, and there is nothing like the sound of a 2,5 short shaft when you put it in the boat ramp period

    Xsflight,

I still wonder if you see more topend with the 200xs over the 200efi. If so how much with the same prop.

Different drive, gear ratio, set back, prop, gauges, carrying 120lbs more weight than before so I can't quantify, but ABSOLUTELY NIGHT AND DAY difference in top end acceleration/quickness and speed. Just like my old friend said "probably have to turn a smaller prop" the guy is unconsciously competant. Yes even slow boats get faster with this motor, now that IS saying something, isn't it???

What is the rev limit and what is the weight? The Merc website is very low on detail. It's not in my price range, but certainly on the after the lotto win list.

Follow the link below and click "specifications" in the upper left-hand side of the page. It'll give you all of the info you request plus some.....

It's funny how they are now admitting the 200XS motor is 225 hp(+), yet they are allowing them to race against the 200 hp 2.0 motors in SST120.It's a good thing they don't come off the docks or corners as well as the 2.0s, or SST120 would quickly become SSTXS!

Looks like the boats are finally ready. Will be interesting to watch. Generation 2 200xs sst peak at 8000 and will be MORE competitive being the "future of racing". To think their is one of these sitting inside a box WAITING to get bolted to a tunnel boat and it's brother sitting inside another box WAITING to get bolted to ALL kinds of boats!!! God knows you can scrap all your plans for that bigger gas tank. SMARTCRAFT gauges say I used 2610 litres @ 172 total engine hrs so averaged 15 litres per hour fuel consumption including trolling/idling time and used approximately 95 litres of oil or .55 litres per hour. Can't speak to real accuracy but gives some snapshot of economics. Yes did lots of trolling but also LOTS of hard skiing, cruising AND torture testing @ WOT. This is on a 92 flightcraft that with added stereo, underwater/interior lighting, setback bracket/planer, spoiler, footwells/bracing/ floor lockers/storage bins and 6 recaro sportster cs seats must weigh close to a ton.

Nothing wrong with 100hp/litre naturally aspirated engine. 2 of these would probably keep up to that 6.2 litre SUPERCHARGED 7 MARINE BEAST. These new motors probably have BETTER power/weight at the PROPSHAFT than that engine does, at about half the cost, plus your boat won't tip over when you turn.

I dunno, for 225HP with no warranty, a used rebuilt 225 Promax would be a lot cheaper.

I don't know where you're getting your info, but the strongest 2.0 SST120 powerheads are supposedly putting out a maximum of 205 - 210 hp. Mine's with the best 2.0/SST120 builder in the country right now (Chris Fairchild), and that's what I'm told I will have with a legal powerhead when I get it back next week. And BTW, a 2.0 powered boat won the Nationals at Kankakee (Mark Jacob) this year, beating Kris Shepard's 2.5 Opti rig (great race!).

Chris Builds strong 2.0 liters I was there when Mark beat Shep the racing is still close between the mod 2.0 liters and the green 2.5 200xs now if the rev limitors were bumped up to 9 grand that would make it an the 2.5 way more powerfull you will be happy with your new Fairchild powerhead

Thanks! I'm sure I will be happy with Chris's product. I was at that race also (I took the photo I attached), and Alex and Shaun said that there's nobody better than Chris when it comes to 120s. He's been a great guy to deal with this Winter, not only on powerheads, but gearcases also. I can't wait to run my Revolution with Chris's powerhead and gearcase mods!...............

240- is no stretch for these motors but regardless of hp figures, mercury does run/dyno the powerheads before shipping, attaches them to extremely DURABLE/ PROVEN components and these motors DO RUN/PERFORM incomparably well. Consider operating costs in your ECONOMICS equation. 10 years @ 2610 litres/year for me, would be 26100 litres. LOTS of dollars to spend/save on fuel and oil even at todays prices which are sure to climb with time. I really liked my EFI especially with the BRUCATO acu/steamwheel BUT after using, fueling and fixing one for 19 years I can say I appreciate the many BENEFITS this motor brings every time I start it.
