    How do you like the 3 litre on your GS? What kind of setback are you running if any? Did you do anything to rebalance wieght forward in the boat? I know Allison doesn't recommend anything over 450 pounds on their 19 foot boats but that reality is slipping away for anyone who wants some horsepower.

    I would have considered that but I already had a 260 EFI. If I end up putting the 260 EFI back on the HST I will be looking for a replacement motor and it is either a 3 litre, Promax 225 (2.5 litre), or one of these new green motors.

    Throaty idle sound ,nice rumble, exhaust burble is trumped slightly by the compressors mechanical audio at idle speeds. Nice idle refinement, in gear speed is noticeably slower than my old EFI. Troll control allows the idle speed to be adjusted down to 550 from a base idle speed of 600, then up again to 1000 in increments as small as 10 RPM using smartcraft gauges. Thats 45 different troll speed options without touching the throttle. The engine will run smooth and steady at whatever speed you select and manages load well if you load it , at any RPM from base idle to WOT. Very impressive idle and low speed running quality and smoothness with even more impressive fuel consumption. Serious midrange snap and response with an effortless feel and sound which continues all the way up. Breathes real good up high with excellent punch above 6000 to WOT. Wickedly SOLID in rough conditions- wow!

    does anyone have info to what top speed would be with twins on a 22' such as DCB or new style Daytona? last hope for a modern 2.5 hotrod!

    A hotrod for sure, but very refined manners. I shake my head every time I refuel no matter how its been run. Performance and efficiency are great. Looks good on the boat compared to my 20" EFI, managed to shorten the tow pylon as planned. This is no FISHIN motor but will run perfectly all day @ 550 rpm using 1.2 litres/ hr of fuel. This thing is both a horse and a peach, sounds mean when it"s pushed hard but very relaxed,smooth up high as well. Does not budge,wiggle/wobble - AT ALL - in nasty conditions. THANKS AGAIN TO MY "OLD" FREIND. I was telling him that at anything less than wide open throttle this thing just GOES TO SLEEP and it just feels/sounds like it could run straight thru to next year up high. Unless it is pinned, it never sounds like it's trying real hard!!!!

    cool .yeah i noticed in your post you commented about how stable these motors were in the the rough stuff no wobble wiggle at all in nasty conditions.my 03 20" efi likes to dance around on the back in the rough stuff just wondering if the brackets and trim cylinder bushing etc alot more beefed up with the 15" motor.

    Uses an OFFSHORE midsection and swivel/tilt assembly ,with a single horizontal trim ram and solid engine mounts. It is "AT ONE" with the boat, VERY STRONG, - moves the weight/ mass, centre of gravity down significantly, which has noticeably improved the boats stability and handling especially in rough conditions. SOLID. Incredible overall improvement for my boat and the only new motor on the planet that could do it all. Not heavier, improved economy and performance throughout a wider, stronger, taller useable powerband along with a shorter stronger mid, with less overall engine/tow pylon height, obvious improvements to skiing/towing stability were achieved as well.

    Great to hear the positive feedback about something new from Mercury. I hate to admit it but I'm starting to like some of the new technology. they'll never sound or smell the same though.

    They look and run better than ever. It is a mercury and still sounds like a mercury. The NEW technology isn't new considering mercury signed a development agreement with ORBITAL back in 1987. Optimax production began in 96/97. Weight includes the remote trim pump.
