Merc took care of some coil problems I had right out of the gate - covered parts and the dealer's labor that found/fixed the problem.

I would guess they are gen 1 motors based on the limiter comment. I have turned my gen2 well over 7 grand and only get a reminder beep beyond 7150 or so with no evidence of the limiter. What is cool though is the motor never loses its control or composure over rpm when prop bite drops as you crest/clear the top of wave. The computer senses and reacts instantly as prop load decreases when you break free of a wave and never flares up in rpm as my old efi did. amazingly fast and smooth control over rpm on the top end. Great speed so far Sumfast.

From what I've been told the phrase GenI vrs GenII is just a marketing tool. Yes the coils have been moved, ecu change (higher limiter), gears changed in lower, but the motor has basically remains the same.

The Gen1 and Gen2 are completely different powerheads, cylinder heads, and calibrations. Think of all of the things Mercury Racing learned on Opti's from 2001 to 2008...the 250XS and 300 XS were developed in that time, and I'm sure that technology got into the Gen2 200XS. The chambers are CNC'd on the Gen2, FWIW.

And I believe that the 200XS Gen 1 just makes 200hp where the 200XS Gen 2 makes a tick above 240hp. Merc got it right with the exception of offering one year of warranty.

I don't think the peak power difference is what everybody claims it is, but the powerBAND is broader on the Gen2; more grunt, better overrev=more fun!

The ever-tightening EPA regulations have made this a race-only engine, and Merc does not warranty race engines, therefore no 1-year warranty. Remember this when you vote! Dubai has outlawed 2-strokes. When do you think the EPA will follow suit?

History has shown it wont take long....I found these two used one in MI the other was in Tenn on a boat and had to buy the whole rig to get the engine, but the boat sold before I could get it home. I just could not bite on two new ones at the time maybe later. But the performance of these things are awesome. Ride safe

The EPA will only make emission requirements, otherwise everybody looks stupid if there is a technology breakthrough with a technology you have banned.
Did all the ships stop coming to Dubai, they are all 2 strokes...

You would have to search through the site but one of the race teams put the 200XS Gen 2's on the dyno and they pulled 240hp multiple times.
