I see.....so it could be 220hp at 7,000RPM (the stated max RPM) and the engine could actually continue to make power up to say 7,500 or 8,000 RPM (assuming limiter eased a bit). With the optimax air compressor and all the EPA stuff I would be curious to see what you could safely turn one of these new engines. I would guess at least 7,500 since I think the SST is rated up to that RPM.

5% rating tolerance for marine engines over 60 HP. Peak power for the SST comes @ 8000, 6500-7000 for the ROS. Being [ race models ] these engines are emissions compliance and testing exempt and being released with 1.75:1 gears the proofs in the pudding boys. They will make 240 as others have suggested and to do that " legally " using the 5% rule the engines will simply indicate a HP rating of 225 on engine I.D.tag. 236+HP @ 6750 an easy 240 @ 7000 . Anyone start one of these yet?

Batboy, based on your location I am assuming you are the friend that BigBoy referred to earlier in this post. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences with this motor as it might be the perfect replacement motor for me in the future. My boat is not recommended for the weight of the 3 liter motors so it is either this or a nice rebuilt 225 Pro Max.

No it`s not me actually. I had the old model on my my batboat for 4 years and thought it was time to upgrade, and with good reason I think, looks like the 200xs has become better, with new pistons, new heads, the coil location has changed, new compressor.
Comes with the short trim as std along with the 1.75 gear ratio, higher rev limit.
    It looks good!

    Batman,

Good news, thanks. By the way sorry I screwed up your name and called you Batboy (I had a cold and can only plead temporary insanity).

Batman.-please let us know your impressions as you will be one person who can make a direct comparison to a previous model on the same hull? Was the original motor a 15" as well?? Did you notice where the compressor is getting it"s coolant from now?

Will have a closer look at this, they have routed the outlet water from the termostats direct out of the cowling. The cooling for the fuel rail has been removed. Will look more at the engine to morrow I think. My old engine was exactly the same except theese modifications.

Comes right from the top of the block now, will be getting a colder feed of coolant I presume? I would suspect slightly higher compression as well, mabey-135-145 lbs, doubt if fuel and air system pressures have been changed. Batman have a look at your engine I.D.tag. Is the indicated HP rating the same as your previous engine?

    New merc

I have heard that merc is looking at producing a new motor for the odba superstock class. It would be called the xs 200 drag complet with midplate and tuner 1.75 sporty, cowl with graphics and powerhead. Still in the wroks as to what rpm limit it will have. At first it was 7k but thinking it might end up round 8k. All you will need is the midsection and a very little gas tank. This motor would also fit into the greenstock class. I am seriously thinking about it.

Yes I did see it after I asked when looking around (I think it was in a press release) and IIRC it was $17,500.
