European racers experiment with gearing on the boats. Some run 1.62, som 1.75 and some even 1.87. I know for certain 2 boats that have had an upgrade from Gen1 to Gen2 without changing anything but the powerhead and the differences have been rather small. A few extra MPH. Biggest advantage have been greater powerband in the upper regions due to higher RPM.
I do not have dyno sheets on the 200xs but SEM Racetech in Sweden put all engines in the dyno. According to them the difference between Gen1 and Gen2 is not that big.
I'm actually going to test a gen2 powerhead on my boat post season to really se if the differences are that big on the 20" mid that I use (have to use the taller mid due to the rules in my class).

Ok so the GenII 200XS is not 245HP, bummer Looks like 225HP is the next in line, any chance of getting a Dyno print from SEM Racetech? At 225HP I'm starting to think warranty is in order as it seems to be a fairly mainline offering. While we are at it, throw the GenII on the scale with a sporty, and fluids and get a weight. I'm thinking 450lbs.

I'm quite convinced it will have 225HP.
I would like to see a dyno sheet of the 200xs and the 225 promax and compare those two. Perhaps the 200x has more torque so maybe at the end the top end numbers would be about the same?
I like those 2.5 blocks and it's a pity the newer motor's are so heavy. Another pro for the 200xs is its sound!
Here is a video of a brand new 200xs Gen2. First time out. (can be that I already posted this video)

Please dont take any offense to this. But do you think perhaps there is some"wishful thinking" going on here? I am basing the following on what I rememember reading years ago (someone may do a search and find the thread) here on S&F
When Mercury made the new 225x Promax, it was reportedly making 247 hp (at the upper end of its RPM range...then went flat). At the same time it was reported that it was slighty stronger than the regular 225 {non X} Promax. Then the GEN1 200xs came out. It was touted as a 220 HP motor. Some really liked it, others complained it was too small on HP. Both instances have the motors at the "legal" max output following the ol' "10% Rule.
Now this thread has seen the GEN2 200xs go from "245hp" to now "225 hp". Both exceeding the 10% allowance for stated HP. So far from what I have read and seen, the Merc race motors seem to make their Peak HP at their upper end of their RPM range, NOT down low in the middle. True Mercury has been known to underrate thier motors so the consumer feels they have strong motors for their stated HP (others have as well). But its not always at the 10% max allowance. There have been dyno sheets posted on the 280 and its peak HP showed to be 290-293ish, NOT 308 hp.
Like I said, I am just sharing some thoughts on this. I have not even seen the new GEN2 200xs (would LOVE to though). I have NO DOUBTS it is more refined than the GEN1 200xs, I wouldn't be surprised if it is "slightly stronger" as well. Just like the 225x vs the 225 Promax. But to claim it to be as strong as a 225, sure makes this seem to be a "Super Motor" or the 225 Promax wasn't as strong as people claim (which I doubt). On another note, someone mentioned weight for the 200xs. The GEN1 200xs was advertised by Merc Racing as 440lbs. So the 450lb guess is probably close "user ready"
BIGBOY, that motor sounds SWEET! Sounds MUCH badder @zz than the big-block opti's!Last edited by DarthVMAX; 08-03-2011 at 08:35 AM.

I just put my 2005 280 on the dyno and it came back 282HP. We then put my Promax 225 on the dyno because we thought it was running weak and it came back at 231HP (dang it, thought it was weak!) and when running leak down confirmed the problem. Lee has tested other Promax 225's and they always come back on the money at 240-245HP. I believe that Fuller's recently dyno'd a 225X and it was identical to the 225 Promax at 240-245HP. Edit: just checked the 225X at Fuller's and it dyno'd at 247HP.
Now the 200xs is a different story. First, it is a 450lb motor all in, that is no lightweight. As to power, I could have sworn that some GenI 200xs motors were tested on the dyno and the results were lackluster. Don't hold me to this, but I thought they only pumped 205-210HP. If the 200xs GenII makes 225HP I'd like to see the dyno sheet for $18,000 and no warranty.Last edited by Greg G; 08-03-2011 at 10:11 AM.

Question, do you have any real world data of your motor setup against what your putting down? You have a tow boat right? Really? I find it so funny how your think my fat azz motor (thats 44lbs more than yours) is so damn heavy. If you shift your battery around youll have the exact same COG. So are you going to hand everyone's asses with your ski boat? I asked you for performance numbers months ago and you gave nothing, so convienient. This is a performance site, for performance boaters. I think this is a great engine and a step in the right direction with Merc's DI technology. But its still a stout 200. No need to knock others with their motors that CAN give people real world numbers..... My heavy azz motor ran 109mph GPS on Sunday, some 300XS on STV's are runnin the same or faster(with a warranty I might add). Please, come spank us...................Im not putting down this motor, just the person who makes claimes without REAL numbers to back it up. Real world ET's and MPH show more than any dyno can.

I've run 75 mph with my Gen1 200xs on my 21 foot deep vee in 3 feet chop. I've got 26° deadrise, a small aeriated step at 5 feet fron aft and weigh in at 1500 pounds empty. Gearing is 1.87 and I have so far run a 27 Fury modified by Marc Croxton. I hope to see about 82-83 mph in the flat.
I love my "old" 200xs but I'm really looking forward to test with a Gen2 powerhead.

I have to agree.
It's time for facts!!!
I would def like to see a dyno sheet.
Our local Merc dealer told my friend the engine will probably put out about 225hp.

So back to the 200xs GenII ROS............maybe someone will post up with the dyno sheet on this 450lb motor. I'm going to start looking for a 225X SS myself. I'm even doubting the 200xs GenII makes 225HP now.

The power/performance of the 200xs keeps dropping the weight keeps climbing and the big blocks are getting lighter.I was told I should buy a 300xs by someone who has forgotten more about performance boating than most on this site will ever know. I know ALL of the big block DI's are awesome BUT. PUT two identical flightcrafts side by side one with a 20"-300 xs or ETEC and one with 15" ROS,which one would faster, which one is the better boat overall. Even my OLD FRIEND knows both answers. WE all get to decide which motor would be best for our boats don't we, I know I made the ONLY right decision for me. It was not based on a dyno sheet. Sorry SPEED JR really don't have #'s that can prove anything. This motor would drowned my old 200 on top for sure. 86 with a 17" high five @ 6860, 98 @6150 with a 19" enertia. thats in canadian eh! km/hr. completely useless facts. 231hrs and 3468 liters of fuel used. averaging 15 liters per hour, not so completely useless facts. 435#'s with trim pump and fluids. fact.

xsflight thank you for confirming the weight of a 200xs at 435lb's, at least we have one data point confirmed!
