    Which 60 hp?

    Hi all,
I am looking for a 60 horsepower engine and my main objective will be speed.
Which motors have the speed potential? The yamaha 60 hp enduro i am looking at has a gear ratio of 2.33 seems a bit high to me. I am also interested in an 60 etec but his has a gear ratio op 2.67 and a huge gearcase in the water. A mercury 60 4stroke has a gear ratio of 1.83 this one seems to be the ticket. which motor do you recommend for the most speed ?

Do the gear ratios matter or will every 60 get me the same speed if propped correct?

I am now running a yamaha 30 hp 2stroke it gets my boat to about 31mph i am running a 14 pitch aluminum prop
what speed do you think i would achieve with a 60?

    60 hp

Between those choices i would choose the merc for the most speed, because of the smaller gearcase. Those big cases have alot more drag

    60 hp

Im not sure about what motors are offered in europe. My first choice would be a 2 stroke with a small diamiter gearcase. I assume you are talking new motors

I have been looking at this Mercury 60 HP on the Merc Racing website. Need more information myself though if it will accommodate my boat.

I am a Yamaha man true to the core. In that class, a 60 2 stroke Merc will be the fastest.

get a 59ci merc 60hp 2 stroke withou the "big foot" lower unit. I think they made them around the late 90's. there are a couple guys on here that know a few tricks to help out in the speed dept.

    what does this mean?

it is just for going fast btw.

what do you guys think about a mercury 60 efi 4stroke it seems to have everything i asked for with good feul eco as a +. The Formularace motor is the exact same engine only with 15inch shaft, solid engine mounts, some funky race boat steering contraption as an option and with no warranty...

what speed numbers do you predict with the 60 merc?

I'm a merc guy but if you want a good 2 stroke try the 3cly tohatsu (Very strong and durable engines)or the ETC- which is a 2 cly. . That being said the new 4 strokes from Merc and Yamaha are nice too.

Real EZ, i know the Case is not what you want, but the Evinrude 60 ETEC is a true 70hp motor. If you look thru the archives of Evinrude you will see that in 2003 when they released the 1st info on the ETEC, they had a 2cylinder 40-70hp, the 60 with its exhaust valve gets about 68.5 at the prop, when runnin a 40,50 and 60 on the muffs you can hear the difference. The motor is the strongest 60 out there, ive even smoked 75 4 strokes with it, and im not joking. Could a guy use a older OMC case on the new ETEC, then sell the Etec foot? The etec foot is the old V6 case or V4 case, from what im told. Good Luck, but dont get a 60 4stroke, thats like stepping back 3 steps!!!!! Brannon

    Another suggestion

    Step up to a 70 hp 2-stroke.

The 70 hp 2-cyl 2-stroke Tohatsu is strong and light.

The 70 hp 3-cyl 2-stroke Yamaha is more sophisticated.
