Most Etec guys get the 250 HO, more suited to High performance, now for 2009 they did have a 20 inch 300, it has the new Magnum 2 gear case with 6 nostrils on the Bullet tip, similar to a torquemaster but beefier, I think the Lighting 2 case is better for high performance, I think surfacing guys pin the carrier or somethin, if you ask what the small mods are the OMC/BRP Gurus (ETEC1) will come out of the snow and tell ya. The Torque is insane, over 300 Ft Lbs, the HP is very similar in the 300/250ho, same power head, the porting may be different, wed have to ask Etec1. They propel my Bass Cat bass boats 4-6mph faster than the 250xs guys, and im not fibbing, their are posts and pics all over bassboatcentral.com. The problems with the 3.4liters are minimal, the 2008s were very good, BRP made some "refinements" in 2009,knock sensor, different heads and something else, then guys had hole shot sluggishness, BRP quickly reacted because in 2008 it was not a issue, they resolved this about 6 months ago with new heads and other tricks, a buddy had these done and it ripped out of the hole (fury prop) and he gained power from 5000-6000 rpms. Im not sure who is a Evinrude dealer on scream and fly as a vendor, but you may get a discount, and hopefully they have a leftover, if its a 2009 make sure the updates are done, and if surfacing talk to the Gurus, ETEC1 has been abusing/drag racing FICHTS,DIs and ETEC HOs for ever, he knows alot about them and wants to help guys in making the right choice, the Blue Choice.....Brannon

    300

Our ski team had one in 2009 and put about 100 hours on it. We don't run fast/high applications but as far as power and reliability it was great. The gear ratio is also different than the 250 HO. The 300 is 1.85:1 and the 250 HO is 1.72:1.

E-Tec1 on the board can help you. Brett VanDerwall is as much of an expert in the area of High Performance E-Tecs as you're going to find on here.
